KOHIMA, Jul 21 (NEPS): Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP), K Kire, IPS, admitted that there had been confusion as to how they would dealt with which group of the newly split factions—GPRN/NSCN and NSCN (K).

Disclosing this to NEPS here today, the DGP said now the new faction of Naga underground came up and occupied the Khehoi Camp which is a designated camp for the NSCN (K). “There are also other designated camps but they are occupied by other forces,” he said and asking “What is the stand of the Government of India (GOI) vis-à-vis the split group.”

“Nobody knows the status of this new group,” Kire disclosed. “The GOI has not spelled out which faction is recognized.”

Asked if he foresaw any unwanted development between the two factions, the DGP said some unwanted situation might come up as the two factions were poised to confront each other any time anywhere. “But we are fully prepared to control the situation and maintain the law and order in the state,” the Police chief asserted.

He, however, made it very clear that for them as law enforcing agencies in the State, they did not differentiate any faction or groups while dealing with them. “For us, anybody committing crimes irrespective of their group affiliations, they are dealt with as per the laws of the land. Our actions as law enforcing agencies in the state should not be misconstrued,” he pointed out. “We are performing our duties.”

On the allegation hurled by the NSCN (K) that the State police had provided escorts to the cadres of the GPRN/NSCN to Khehoi camp, the DGP answered, “We are only following instructions from the Chairman of the Cease Fire Monitoring Group (CFMG).”

He said the requisition of providing escorts to the faction (GPRN/NSCN) came from the CFMG Chairman. This group went to CFMG Chairman and requesting him to provide escort for their movement. “So we only do the job when such instructions came from him (CFMG Chairman),” the DGP revealed.

At the same time, N Kitovi Zhimomi, General Secretary of the GPRN/NSCN moved around in various districts consulting his friends. And one such move was he (Kitovi) went to Mon and picked up Kholie Konyak, Kire stated and admitted that “We didn’t know all these.”

“The state government didn’t come there. We have got nothing to do with it. We never knew it,” he stated.
