IMPHAL, Feb 21 MNS/NNN: Manipur also joined the rest of the world today in observing the ‘International Language Day 2013’ with the Deputy Chief Minister of the state pledging that he would personally take role in developing and preserving the mother language of Manipur.
The observation function of this year’s edition of International Language Day was jointly organized by Research Forum, Manipur (REFORM)) and State Council of Education Research & Training at Kangla Hall in Imphal.
Addressing the function, Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said that the impression that ‘I do not know Manipuri or I do not know how to read it’ clearly indicates lack of inquisitive mind and leadership quality and also such notion shows utter carelessness of one’s own mother language.

The Deputy CM noted that there is nothing destructive in learning a language and called upon the public to render support to the Manipur Government’s latest initiative for setting up of a language directorate for the state.
The function was also attended by REFORM president Mutua Bahadur and Thangmeiband constituency MLA Kh Joykishan.
The day was also observed at the auditorium of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy here.
