SHILLONG, April 8: In order to solve various issues pertaining to the development of the state, Meghalaya Chief Minsiter, Dr Mukul Sangma on Monday while inaugurating of the UN Mock Assembly and United Nations Resource Centre (UNRC), Meghalaya Chapter at the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) said that convergence of different institution is a must in order to solve such problems. Speaking on the occasion as the Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony, Dr Sangma said that there is a need for convergence with various institutions in order to solve the different problems our state and also in return learn from them. “Health, poverty and diseases are some of the major hurdles and with active involvement with the United Nations we can bring a change and development in the state,” Dr Sangma said adding “Which in return bring peace and harmony in the state.” He also added that this collaboration with UNRC will provide plenty of job opportunities and also improve ties with each other. Dr Sangma also assured that the government will provide the needed and better infrastructure in this field to ensure that there is an enabling environment. He also added that the government has also sanction land for the UNRC to set properly in the state. Meanwhile, Director of UN Information Centre (UNIC) KM Kerpelman said, “United Nations from the first are trying to reach out to the young people of different countries and state and seek their views and suggestions on various issues and bring about development in the state.” “It is the youth who can bring a change and development,” She said adding “UN have a set of 8 goals which included maternal and infant care, poverty, gender equality, education, to achieve zero tolerance in diseases like malaria and tuberculosis.” She also said that UN aims to achieve the target of attending the problems by 2015.
