A militant laying down arms to Chief Minister O Ibobi on Wednesday.
Imphal, Sept 4 MNS/NNN : Twelve militants today laid down arms to Manipur Chief Minister, O Ibobi Singh and Dy Chief Minister Gaikhangam at the CM’s Secretariat. Those who laid down arms included six PREPAK (PRO), two KYKL cadres and each of UNLF, PLA, KCP Lamyanba Khuman and PREPAK cadre.
Those who laid down arms were Huirongbam Iboyaima Singh @ Boby Mangang (40) S/o (L) H. Gouro Singh of Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai Sr Pub officer cum Project Officer, PREPAK PRO, on 9 mm pistol with magazine and 15 rounds, Thokchom Abung Meitei @ Apaiba (33) S/o Th. Ongbi Inakhunbi Devi of Khangabok Part – III, Makha Leikai, SS Sgt, PREPAK Pro with a hand grenade, Chungkham Oken @ Naocha @ Ipu Singh (44) S/o Ch. Kulachand Singh of Kwakeithel Thongnoujam Leikai SS Lt, APO, Prepak PRO, Ningthoujam Amu Singh @ Sanayai @ Ratan (27) S/o (L) N. Inaocha Singh of Sagolband Langjing Achouba Makha Leikai, Corp, PREPAK PRO with a hand grenade, Wahengbam Apeisana @ Amuthoi Singh (16) S/o W. Pahari Singh of Kumbi Laibung Makhong of PREPAK PRO with a hand grenade, SS Capt Koijam Devan Singh @ Khamba @ Kappa Singh (41) S/o (L) K. Devo Singh of Khongman Mangjil Mamang Kongba Road of PREPAK PRO with one 9 mm pistol, five rounds, two IED and three hand grenade, SS Sgt Moirangthem Chinglen @ Hemanta Meitei (22) S/o M. Ranjit Singh of Khongjom Khebaching , KYKL with AK 56 rifle and two magazines, Hodam Tansen @ Nanao Singh (25) S/o H. Kesho Singh of Wangjing of KYKL with a grenade, Konjenbam Ibochoubi S/o K. Tombi Singh of Lamboi Khongnang Khong, PREPAK, Laishram Sanjoy (18) PLA, of Churachanpur with a grenade, Khangembam Joychandra SS Corp of UNLF of Samaram Mayai Leikai with a grenade and Moirangthem Nanao 25 of KCP (Lamyanba Khuman) with an Ak 47.
Two AK rifles along with 221 rounds, two IEDs, nine hand grenades, six detonators and two 9 mm pistols along with one magazine and 20 rounds were brought by the twelve insurgents.
Speaking on the occasion, Ibobi held that Wednesday’s surrender by militants has indicated that different underground groups in the state have gratified with the rehabilitation programmes and welfare policy taken up by the state Government for the surrendered militants.
He said it is not a correct way to reflect the surrendered militants as people who had been diverted from the mainstream and rather it could be right to think them as individuals who simply wanted to serve the people.
The Chief Minister also said such militants who have listened to the call by the Government have reentered into the national mainstream that will certainly help in bringing development.
He assured every step will be taken up by the state Government to rehabilitate these surrendered militants besides they will be provided security protection for their lives.
Ibobi said, “We are expecting more militants will join the mainstream.”
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Deputy Speaker MK Presho Shimray, MLAs N Biren, T Mangibabu, Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga, DGP MK Das and several top police officials besides attended the function.
