Disqualify 20 AAP MLAs for office of profit : EC

NEW DELHI, Jan 19:The Election Commission today recommended to President Ram Nath Kovind that 20 Aam Aadmi Party legislators should be disqualified for holding ‘office of profit’ as Parliamentary Secretaries, sources said. Once the recommendation is approved by the President, by-elections will have to be held for the 20 Assembly seats. Initially, the case was against 21 legislators, but after Rajouri Garden MLA Jarnail Singh resigned to contest against Parkash Singh Badal in the Punjab Assembly elections last year, the case now stands against 20 legislators. Party sources say that AAP will challenge the poll panel’s decision in the Supreme Court.

IMPHAL, Jan 19 : Imphal West SP, Themthing Ngashangva has allotted a Head Constable and a Constable of Imphal West district police, as the personal security officers of Th Herojit Singh today.
The security was provided after the Asian Human Rights Commission wrote to DGP LM Khaute urging for security for Thounaojam Herojit who has turned whistleblower.
In his statement to the media Herojit had disclosed that he shot dead Ch Sanjit at BT Road on July 23, 2009 on the instructions of his superior officer.

IMPHAL, Jan 19 : A delegation of the State Government led by the Textiles, Commerce and Industries Director would take part in the ASEAN-India Business Summit and Expo 2018 which would be held at New Delhi on January 22 and 23.
Regarding the summit cum expo, Principal Secretary (Commerce and Industries) P Vaiphei today held a meeting with officials of relevant departments at his Secretariat South Block office chamber.
The meeting decided to send a State delegation to the ASEAN-India Business Summit and Expo 2018, informed a source. The meeting was attended by high ranking officials of Environment and Ecology Department, Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Art and Culture, Tourism, Transport and Science and Technology Department.
Established entrepreneurs of the State may join the delegation which would be headed by Commerce and Industries Director M Luikham, added the source.

IMPHAL, Jan 19: A personnel of the Territorial Army, identified as Yangmi Muiwo (34) s/o Diamond Muiwo of Halang village, was found dead inside his camp at Leimakhong at around 10.30 am yesterday.
According to a source, the deceased has been serving in the Territorial Army since 2005. It stated that the deceased was reportedly working with three of his colleagues at an army store room on the day of the incident. He was later found dead, lying in a pool of blood with his throat slit.
Police have deposited the body at JNIMS morgue.

IMPHAL, Jan 19: Chief Secretary RR Rashmi has issued a circular directing all the heads of departments and superior officers to attend the Statehood Day function on January 21 without fail.
With Chief Minister N Biren as the chief guest, the Statehood Day celebration would be held at 1st Bn MR parade ground at 9.30 am.
Fuelled by a suspicion that the Statehood Day celebration may witness low attendance as January 21 happens to be Sunday, the Chief Secretary issued the circular directing all heads of departments, administrative secretaries and under secretaries to attend the function without fail.
The circular says that necessary action would be taken up against officers who do not attend the function.
Secretary to Chief Minister N Ashok Kumar too wrote to all administrative secretaries yesterday to attend the 46th Statehood Day celebration without fail.
The administrative secretaries have also been directed to ensure that all their subordinate officials too attend the function, informed a source.
