IMPHAL, May 9: The troops of Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR(South) carried out a successful rescue operation on May 8.An official release stated that a Tata magic with regd. No MN-1K 4527 heading towards Sugnu Town from Kakching, lost control and turned turtle injuring passengers near Longmaidong, Thoubal. On receiving the news, the troops along with a medical team of 27 Assam Rifles rushed to the spot and rescued twenty passengers, evacuated injured passengers to the Civil Hospital, Kakching after providing first aid, it further added.

IMPHAL, May 9: Candidates of Dimapur(March and September 2011 rally), Bishnupur and Mon Rally who were provisionally selected into the Indian Army and have been issued call-up letters from the Army Recruiting Office, Rangapahar are hereby advised to report to the Office by 7a.m. on June 6 and there is no change to other instructions given in the call-up letter, stated a press release of the PIB (Defence Wing), Government of India.It further added that there will be a change for the candidates of Nalbai, Tuenang, Zakhama and Imphal Rally, on the dispatched dates as to what was written in the call-up letters from Army Recruiting Office, Rangapahar. The cloths which are believed to be woven by thoibi at Ngangkhalawai should be preserve in the museum said M. Prithviraj, MLA, Moirang A/C, in his presidential speech of a book release function held at Chingu Thangjing Leikon, Moirang, Bishnupur dist.The book titled Leisemlon, Moirang Thangjing Haroarol was written by Moirangthem Raghumani. On the sideline of this book release function, M. Prithviraj expressed his concern that the artifacts of Thoibi could be loss in oblivion, if necessary steps are not taken to preserve it.Tongbram Mangibabu, MLA, Thanga A/C graced the function as the chief guest and K.Sushila, deputy director, Manipur state archives as the guest of honour. IMPHAL, May 8: Manipur defeated Andaman & Nicobar by 12-1 goals in the ongoing 65th national football championship for Santosh trophy 2010-11 being held at Sivsagar, Assam. In their second match of the preliminary round clusters III competition Manipur scored at regular interval to net in a total of 12 goals against minnows Andaman & Nicobar.Striker L Tiken netted in a total of six goals in the match while L Nabachandra scored two goals. Th Santosh, I Nilakumar, L Thoiba and Kh Naoton scored one goal each for Manipur. Manipur will play their last match of the cluster III competition against Andra Pradesh on May 10 but the AP team has failed to turn up for the championship so far and Manipur is sure to enter pre-quarter final round.

IMPHAL,May16: The timely action of the medical team of 30 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR(South) saved a girl bitten by a venomous snake on May 15 according to a press release by the AR.The girl is identified as Gracy, 15 years old, from Bomul Leikai, Imphal-east. She was brought to the Unit Hospital in a critical condition and was immediately administered life saving anti-venom by the Medical Officer, it added.

IMPHAL, May 8: FC Imphal will meet Nagaland veteran football team in the final of the 13th Challenge Cup veteran football tournament.FC Imphal reached the final after defeating FLAM by 3-1 in the second semi final played today at Mapal Kangjeibung. The Nagaland team had already entered the final after defeating IMVFA in the first semi final.FC Imphal had early lead in the match through a fourth minute goal from T Bale while Krishna increased the margin in the 20th minute with another goal. Later in the second half, S Rohendro scored third goal for FC Imphal to sail into the summit clash against Nagaland. FLAM managed to reduced the goal difference only in the 57th minute when resurgent N Bobo netted in only goal for team. FC Imphal will play Nagaland in the final on May 10 at Mapal Kangjeibung.

IMPHAL, May 8: TBSFA have lifted the 3rd Th Birchandra Football Academy memorial football trophy.In a one sided final match played today at Toubungkhok, TBSFA easily beat YOSC by a 7-1 goals. Ng Piter scored three goals for the TBSFA while Ch Sana scored two goals. L Monish and I Lamyanba scored one goal each for the winning team. The one and only goal for YOSC was scored by Md Yasir in the 30th minute. Champion TBSFA lifted the trophy along with the cash prize of Rs 20,000 while YOSC lifts runner up trophy along with cash prize of Rs 15,000.Sana of TBSFA won best midfielder’s trophy with cash prize of Rs 1000 while Bideshwor also of TBSFA won best scorer’s trophy with the cash prize. IMPHAL, May 7: The second excursion tour to Sendra Loktak project comprising of 62 students and eight teachers from various schools of Tamei was flagged off by the Battalion Commander, 10 DOGRA on May 6. The students will also visit the INA Museum at Moirang and other sightseeing places around Imphal during the two day trip. The educational cum fun tour was organised by 10 DOGRA under the aegis of Red Shield Division. The excursion will provide an opportunity to students studying in different schools at Tamei to expose themselves to the outside world learning and acquiring knowledge while having fun, added the release.The educational tour is one amongst the many events being organised by the Army to assist the student community. Recently the battalion has supported the Student Union, Tamei in organising their 3rd Fresher’s Social Function on April 30, the release further added.

IMPHAL, May 7: Former champion Nagaland Veteran Football Association has entered final of the 13th Challenge Cup veteran football tournament being held at Mapal Kangjeibung.This is second year in succession for the Nagaland team to enter final.In the first semi final played today at Mapal Kangjeibung Nagaland veteran team defeated IMVF, Heingang by 3-0. Lanusanen scored first goal for the Nagaland team to take the lead in the 13th minute.Ronthango increased the the lead for Nagaland as he netted in second goal for the team in the 44th minute.In the second half, Yambemo scored third goal for the team in the 55th minute thereby securing Nagaland team to the final. Despite their efforts to equalise the deficit goals, IMVFA failed to match their Nagaland counterpart.During the match, referee Shanta booked Ksh Sarat of IMVFA for commiting a dangererous faul to a Nagaland player.

IMPHAL, May 7: The troops of 23 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector under HQ IGAR(south) launched a search operation in the Lamlai area on the May 7 and recovered a Carbine Machine gun with magazine, 9mm pistol with magazine, five live rounds of 9mm, 26 live rounds of AK, one AK magazine, one round catch and six Electronic detonators, stated an official release.In yet another incident, troops of 31 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR(south) along with lady police representatives launched operation in Khudengthabi area on May 6 and apprehended two individuals with banned wildlife products from a Maruti van with Regd. No MN-01W-1840, heading towards Moreh added the release.It has further identified the perpetrators as Kapaine, 29, d/o Sub (retd.) Sainee and Asha Empfuthmai, 35, d/o Fakhoto, both from Maipethu, Senapati. Fourteen deer horns and two mobile phones were recovered from them who were later handed over to Customs officials, it added.
