IMPHAL, June 23: Failure of the Imphal Municipal Council authorities to properly demarcate the allotted space for the license vendors at the temporary market shed of Khwairamband keithel, has led to an awkward altercation amongst the women vendors this morning with reports of some vendors fainting during the altercation.

The altercation emerged between the women vendors of shed No. 7 and 8, this early morning however immediate re-enforcement from the nearby Imphal city police controlled the situation.

Meanwhile, many licence vendors of the temporary shed charged that the altercation broke due to the intrusion into the temporary market sheds by street vendors and as such the vendors demanded the concerned authorities to check the unauthorized intrusion so as to avoid such ugly fracas in the future.

IMPHAL June 28: Due to incessant rain for the past few days, many low lying areas within the vicinity of Imphal area have been inundated.

The inter connecting roads of Sagolband, Keisamthong, Uripok and Andro parking has been flooded as the water have poured out from the drainages. At present, due to an unfinished retaining wall at Uripok, water has seeped in from the Nambul river and many houses are flooded. A flood scenario is also prevalent at Lamphel area. The level of the Nambul and Imphal rivers are also up in spates.

The raising water level also has severely affected the undergoing construction works of the Naga Nullah and other developmental works taken up in Imphal area at present.

According to sources from the weather department, the rain may continue for some more days.

IMPHAL, June 30: The proscribed RPF/PLA, in a press statement, has stated that Nikolai who was killed by Manipur Police commandos on June 29 at Naoremthong Khullem Leikai is not related with the outfit.

He was expelled from the outfit vide resolution number 107 (b) (i) of the EC.

IMPHAL, July 2: The office of the controller of Technical Education Manipur has informed that the last date of forms submission of forms of admission in one year diploma in Engineering, Pharmacy and Non-Engineering courses for the session, 2011 has been extended upto July 5.

It said that the selection test examination will be held on July 9, instead of July 3 and informed the candidates to collect their admit cards on July 7 and July 8.

IMPHAL, July 5: State security forces will be equipped with new sophisticated AK series rifles under the police modernization schemes of the state government in the nearest future.

According to an official source, a strong team of MR, IRB and police led by Aaaiatant commandant of 7th MR O Chaoba Singh and Jemadar Th Indrakumar of 5th IRB along with 50 strong personnel from different MR and IRB battalions of the state will be leaving Imphal on July 8 for Kanpur, UP, by road to collect 1125 Nos. of AK series Rifles which were procured by the state government from Central Weapon Store-I, CRPF DIG office recently for utilization in the state by the state forces, the source added.

Nearly 119 persons aged between 1-15 years from Thongju-Pheijaleitong and nearby localities were administered vaccines to protect themselves from the outbreak of Japanese Enchaphilitis. Members of ASHA, anganwadi workers and helpers and volunteers of Students’ Welfare Committee assisted the doctors and nurses of the health centre in carrying out the vaccination of the individuals who registered at the camp.

IMPHAL, July 22: A Tree plantation drive was carried out by 15 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under the aegis of HQ IGAR(South) at Phundrei, Thoubal on 22 Jul 2011.  A total of 500 saplings including 150 Gulmohar, 100 Jack Fruits, 100 Karpoor and 150 Neem were planted. Commandant 15 Assam Rifles alongwith Pradhans/Headman of neighboring villages like Langathel and Phundrei and approx 200 School children from the area undertook the plantation.  Representatives of the State Nursery department were also present on the occasion. The local people, especially the School children were impressed upon the significance of Green environment in today’s modern world.  The local populace have expressed gratitude at this yet another noble step taken by Assam Rifles.

IMPHAL July 26: Through the initiative of councilor ward no. 6 of Khumbi Nagar panchayet, several relief materials were distributed to flood affected families of Khumbi today.

Nongmeithem Babudhon Singh, chairperson Kumbi Nagar panchayat today distributed 10kg of rice along with 1 kg pulses (dal) per family of the area affected by flood from the recent torrential rainfall.  Side by side several  mosquito nets of the flood affected families from ward no. 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 of Khumbi a/c  were also administered mosquitoes  repellent  solution this afternoon during the distribution function.

Addressing media persons at the Lai- achouba mandop located near Kumbi bazaar, one of the places where the distribution was held today, Babudhon Singh said that the initiative was solely taken up by the chairperson with the support of the department concerned of the government. He added that several families have been affected by flood as a result of the recent heavy downpour. The distribution of relief materials and administering of mosquito nets with mosquito disinfectants was held at various places  of Kumbi a/c.

IMPHAL, Aug 3: Discovering the movement of UG cadres in general area Tengnoupal, troops of 29 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR(South) launched operation in general area on today at around 08:30 am and apprehended two Myanmarese Nationals from a Maruti Van regd No MN-01W 6470 coming from Imphal to Moreh. The apprehendees were identified as Md Javed Aktar, 21 yrs, r/o Akiat, Krakan,Myanmar and Md Kan Noor, 29 yrs, r/o Aliat, Krakan. The apprehendees were handed over to Tengnoupal Police Station.

IMPHAL, August 7: An 18 year old boy was found dead this morning from near the Nambul River bank area at Uripok Achom leikai suspiciously of a drug overdose while two of his friends have been picked up by the local police for further investigation on the incident. The boy identified as Maibam Dilip alias Maniton, 18 s/o M Tonjao of Uripok Khaidem leikai was found dead from the southern side of a residence belonging to one Shijagurumayum Bihari Sharma, by locals who inform the local club, who in turn inform the police. Meanwhile, the local club had kept two of the deceased’s friend on alleged reports of being last seen with the deceased and handed them over to the police on their arrival to the site.

IMPHAL August 13: The Lions Club of Imphal Greater in collaboration with 109Bn CRPF organized a tree plantation project at Mongsangei today as part of  “Patriots Day” observation.

The tree plantation programme is undertaken by the Lions Club of Imphal Greater in earnest response to the call given by the International president, Lions Clubs International to all the Lions in 206 countries and geographical areas to plant a million trees in this lionistic year.

This project is also a step towards making a more greener Manipur. Around 300 trees were planted in and around the 109Bn CRPF campus, Mongsangei.

In the said project district governor, Lion Amar Barooah (PMJF), Dist 322-D and the commandant, 109 Bn. CRPF H. Premjit Meitei also joined in the plantation efforts. A release by Thongam Arun, PRO of LCIG said.
