IMPHAL, May14: In an award ceremony organized by the Manipur Rifle Assoiation on May14, six cadets were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals for their achievements in various categories during the XX All Manipur Shooting Competition, 2011 held at Khuman Lampak Shooting Ranges, Imphal from October 14 to October 2010, revealed in a press release by the Bureau(Defence Wing), Government of India.The four cadets from 14 Manipur Battalion NCC are SUO Babloo Raj Kumar who won two golds, one silver and one bronze are UO Roben who won one gold and one silver, UO Kabichandra who won one bronze and UO Md Arjuman who won one bronze. The party further calls on for a launch of vigorous struggles to compel the Government to reverse its decision.

IMPHAL May 22: The excavation works carried out for the sewage projects along the RIMS road had caused leakage to a pipeline, supplying water from Singda, under PHED, to the area under Lalambung Takhellambam Leikai Youth Development Organization and in several parts of Thangmeiband localities which has caused immense inconveniences to the consumers, said a press release by the secretary of LTYDO.
Adding to the injury, infested water from the nearby drain has been seeping through the leakage on the pipe which has resulted in high chances of infection of water borne among the people of the area, the release added.
In relation with this problem, the release appealed the PHED Department to fix the problem at RIMS road within 10 days. The release further added that if the concerned department fail to act within the set deadline, than, LTYDO in association with other consumers of Thangmeiband would initiate various forms of agitations till the demand is met, it stated.

IMPHAL May 26: A sit-in protest was held this afternoon at SEICO office located at Liwa road Chanam Pukhri Mapal in connection with the arrest of three persons by security force.

The arrested persons are Thangjam Gojen, 30, s/o Th. Gambhir of Chanam Pukhri Mapal of ward number 17, Oinam Setha 26, s/o O. Shyamjai of Chanam Pukhri Mapal of ward number 16 and Irom Somorendro 35, s/o I. Lukhoi of Chingamakha Ahongsangbam Leikai,
Speaking to media person, a protester informed that both Gojen and Setha were arrested by the Army last mid-night, whereas, I.Somorendro was arrested on May 22 midnight, however, till today, no information on their whereabouts is known.

The protester further said that Th. Gojen and I Somorendro are former militants of PLA while O. Setha was associated with PREPAK; however, since the last 10/20 years they have been leading a normal life.

Apprehensive on the development, the protester questioned whether Arm Forces Special Power Act is still in force, even though it was declared that the act has been withdrawn from 7 segments of the Imphal Municipal council by the Government.

Lamka May 3: The Khuga Dam JAC`s accussation on the state government that quality has not been maintained during the construction of the dam and that it is an impending death trap for the people was once again proved true as a semi pucca-bridge constructed across the right side canal passing through the middle of Saipum village had collapse last Tuesday at about 1 pm. The village is located around 1 km from the main dam site.

As a result, the village has been cut off in the middle with 20 households of the village on one side while another 60 households remaining on the other side of the canal.

A villager told the JAC chairman and the secretary along with the MDC of the area that communication between the two sides has been completely cut off with the collapsing of the bridge.

While speaking to the correspondent of the IFP at the site, the JAC chairman stated that Daijang villagers are unable to carry out cultivation activities in the rice fields on the apprehension that the walls of the dam might collapse.
He also stated that another bridge had collapse recently and the villagers had to repair it with MGNREGS funds.

LAMKA, June 15: The Biometric Census Awareness Campaign organized by the district administration at YPA hall Hiangtam Lamka from 11 am drew a huge turn out of leaders from various organisations and the tribes based at the district today.

Biju Basumatary assistant director census department while speaking at the campaign pointed out the importance of the exercise and highlighted the various stages which are to be followed to the attending crowd.

He said Manipur is the first place where this census is started and will continue till the entire country is covered.

Langkhanpau Guite chairman ADC Churachandpur and the Hareshwar general manager MANITRON also addressed the gathering.

Most MDCs from the district turned up to attend the campaign. The DC Churachandpur gave the keynote addressed.

IMPHAL, June 28: Yesterday, the June 27 a young boy Kaonei, 2 yrs old from village Phaibung Khullen, Senapati District was brought to MI Room, 59 Mountain Brigade of the Red Shield division bitten by a viper snake while playing at home added the release.

The boy was immediately administered with the lifesaving ASV (anti snake venom) therapy by the medical officer and the paramedical staff.

After the treatment the child was kept under observation for about 5 hours and then referred to higher medical facility. Local people thanked the Army for saving the young and precious life added the release.
