IMPHAL, May 12: Gangte CD Music Album titled `Aw Ganggam`™ is scheduled to be released on May14 at Chiengkawnpang Community Hall, Churachndpur at 2.30p.m., in a press release the album producer.

The album is a collection of eleven songs, composed in Gangte dialect and is crooned by a budding artist, PCL Thuoma and is a debut album of the said artist, it further added.

IMPHAL, May14: In an award ceremony organized by the Manipur Rifle Assoiation on May14, six cadets were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals for their achievements in various categories during the XX All Manipur Shooting Competition, 2011 held at Khuman Lampak Shooting Ranges, Imphal from October 14 to October 2010, revealed in a press release by the Bureau(Defence Wing), Government of India.The four cadets from 14 Manipur Battalion NCC are SUO Babloo Raj Kumar who won two golds, one silver and one bronze are UO Roben who won one gold and one silver, UO Kabichandra who won one bronze and UO Md Arjuman who won one bronze. The two girls cadets from 65 Girls Company NCC are Chanumeera who won one gold, one bronze and Inunganbi who won one silver medal, it further disclosed.

IMPHAL,May17: The Communist Party of India, Manipur, expresses its displeasure with the recent hike of petrol price, in a press release by the CPI(ML).

It states that the threat of another hike in price of diesel, kerosene and cooking gas is a criminal attack on people when the vast majority of them are already in miserable conditions over the sky rocketing price rise of essential commodities. The party further calls on for a launch of vigorous struggles to compel the Government to reverse its decision.

IMPHAL, May 19: The Trainee`™s Union of the DM College of Teachers Education has demanded immediate removal of principal of the DMC of Teachers Education H Ibomcha Sharma from his post.

A statement of the Trainee`™s Union of DMC of TE alleged that the current principal is corrupt and lacks dynamism apart from being a poor administrator.

The trainees also draws immediate attention of the government to replace a suitable and dynamic principal for the college.

IMPHAL May 22: The excavation works carried out for the sewage projects along the RIMS road had caused leakage to a pipeline, supplying water from Singda, under PHED, to the area under Lalambung Takhellambam Leikai Youth Development Organization and in several parts of Thangmeiband localities which has caused immense inconveniences to the consumers, said a press release by the secretary of LTYDO.
Adding to the injury, infested water from the nearby drain has been seeping through the leakage on the pipe which has resulted in high chances of infection of water borne among the people of the area, the release added.
In relation with this problem, the release appealed the PHED Department to fix the problem at RIMS road within 10 days. The release further added that if the concerned department fail to act within the set deadline, than, LTYDO in association with other consumers of Thangmeiband would initiate various forms of agitations till the demand is met, it stated.

IMPHAL May 26: A sit-in protest was held this afternoon at SEICO office located at Liwa road Chanam Pukhri Mapal in connection with the arrest of three persons by security force.

The arrested persons are Thangjam Gojen, 30, s/o Th. Gambhir of Chanam Pukhri Mapal of ward number 17, Oinam Setha 26, s/o O. Shyamjai of Chanam Pukhri Mapal of ward number 16 and Irom Somorendro 35, s/o I. Lukhoi of Chingamakha Ahongsangbam Leikai,
Speaking to media person, a protester informed that both Gojen and Setha were arrested by the Army last mid-night, whereas, I.Somorendro was arrested on May 22 midnight, however, till today, no information on their whereabouts is known.

The protester further said that Th. Gojen and I Somorendro are former militants of PLA while O. Setha was associated with PREPAK; however, since the last 10/20 years they have been leading a normal life.

Apprehensive on the development, the protester questioned whether Arm Forces Special Power Act is still in force, even though it was declared that the act has been withdrawn from 7 segments of the Imphal Municipal council by the Government.

IMPHAL, May 28: The Manipur State Kala AkadEmi is holding the Akademi Award presentation ceremony for the year 2009 on May 30 at 4pm at Jawharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy`™s auditorium, according to its press release.

Governor, Gjurubachan Jagat and the chairman of Manipur State Kala Akademi will be the chief guests and present the awards. Rk Jhalajit Singh, Padmashree will preside over the function, it added.

Every year, the Akademi honours outstanding artists and scholars in different fields by conferring fellows and awards. The award carries cash of Rs7000 along with a Tamarapatra and certificate. The fellows and awards for the year 2009 are seventeen including two fellows. Normally, the number of awards is sixteen including two fellows. However, for the year 2009, the General Council of Manipur State Kala Akademi decided to confer an additional award namely Hon`™ble Mention for that year only, it further added.

IMPHAL, May 30: With the Congress dominating the just held IMC election by achieving the needed absolute majority of 14 seats, MPCC president Gaikhangam has stated that it is only an indication of impending victory for the party in the coming 2012 general election in the state.
The president was briefing mediapersons during a pres conference conveyed this evening at the Congress Bhavan, regarding the easy win of the party in the IMC election.
Further speaking at the conference he maintained that the easy victory of the party shows that the people of the state still have belief and faith in the party.
He also added that taking serious concern over the people’s aspiration, his party will try to go ahead with the developmental works in the state.

Lamka May 3: The Khuga Dam JAC`s accussation on the state government that quality has not been maintained during the construction of the dam and that it is an impending death trap for the people was once again proved true as a semi pucca-bridge constructed across the right side canal passing through the middle of Saipum village had collapse last Tuesday at about 1 pm. The village is located around 1 km from the main dam site.

As a result, the village has been cut off in the middle with 20 households of the village on one side while another 60 households remaining on the other side of the canal.

A villager told the JAC chairman and the secretary along with the MDC of the area that communication between the two sides has been completely cut off with the collapsing of the bridge.

While speaking to the correspondent of the IFP at the site, the JAC chairman stated that Daijang villagers are unable to carry out cultivation activities in the rice fields on the apprehension that the walls of the dam might collapse.
He also stated that another bridge had collapse recently and the villagers had to repair it with MGNREGS funds.

IMPHAL June 5: An open discussion held at the multipurpose hall of Modern College and attended by the coordinating committee of Founders and Alumni and students of Modern College was held today.The discussion unanimously resolved to urge the State government against the shifting of the college premises. The resolutions include that the 45 year old institution which has produced several contributing members of society must remain at the original place and to further urge the government to revoke the cabinet decision. A memorandum will also be submitted to the Chief Minister in the regard, if the government disregards the plea then protests will be launched with the help of like minded organizations,the release stated.

IMPHAL, June 10: The first meeting of the Public Undertakings committee of the Manipur Legislative Assembly for the year 2011-12 will be held on June 10 in the Committee Room A of the Assembly Secretariat to discussed about the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India for the year ended March 31, 2010 (Report No.2) along with the Report of the state Finance (Report No.1) and to make a detail programme for para-wise examination of the various corporations under the CAG’s Report.

Biju Basumatary assistant director census department while speaking at the campaign pointed out the importance of the exercise and highlighted the various stages which are to be followed to the attending crowd.

IMPHAL June 25: The All Manipur Students Union, under the aegis of its Imphal West District committee reformed the Yurembam Branch today. 

The reformation meet was held at Recent Higher Secondary School at Sagoltongba and presided by AMSU president Sarangthem Manjit Meetei. New office bearers were also selected for the branch today.

It has further stated that Khoirom Naocha Singh, Irengbam Suresh Singh both of Imphal college and Khumukcham Somorjit Singh of DM college have been unanimously appointed as president, vice president and general secretary.

IMPHAL, June 28: Yesterday, the June 27 a young boy Kaonei, 2 yrs old from village Phaibung Khullen, Senapati District was brought to MI Room, 59 Mountain Brigade of the Red Shield division bitten by a viper snake while playing at home added the release.

The boy was immediately administered with the lifesaving ASV (anti snake venom) therapy by the medical officer and the paramedical staff.

After the treatment the child was kept under observation for about 5 hours and then referred to higher medical facility. Local people thanked the Army for saving the young and precious life added the release.

IMPHAL, July 2: Troops of 31 Assam Rifles have reportedly intercepted heroin from a lady yesterday while conducted search operation in the general area of Khudengthabi.

A statement of the PRO IGAR (S) said that the lady identified as one Nengnedhong Haokip, 37, w/o Ngamu Haokip of Phoilen, PO Moreh was intercepted with 3 packs of (310g) of heroin number 4 by the AR troops along with lady police from a Maruti van regd No AS-01X7627.

It said the apprehended lady along with the recovered items has been handed over to the custom office, Moreh.
