Eco blockade: Politics wins, common man loses

The economic blockade in Manipur this year has exceeded the 120 days record of 2012, something that seems to have become a ‘way of life’ in Manipur. After four months of continuous blockade of NH 2, has the UNC been able to achieve its stated objectives? Have we the Nagas been able to convince the Manipur Govt to reconsider their decision of establishing new districts? Was this the most effective approach by UNC? As the elections gets over, it is time that the Nagas take a mature and pragmatic view of the core issue instead of continuing the economic blockade without gaining anything tangible.

Career penchant in Anthropology

One of the rewarding careers for students may be studying a subject to know more about human being and its past. Well, in this regard the subject that comes to our mind is Anthropology. The term Anthropology has been derived from two Greek terms namely ‘anthropos’ which means human and ‘logos’ means study. Thus Anthropology is the study of human beings in its absoluteness. Anthropology is the study of various aspects of humans within past and present societies. Social anthropology and cultural anthropology study the norms and values of societies.

BJP’s inroads in Northeast: Seal to Modi’s Act Asia policy

The North East Region (NER) , the heartland of Congress political power in the east , wobbles after BJP made debut in Manipur in the five state assembly elections held during February to March 2017. It paved the way for BJP to make in-roads in the region. Despite tallying behind Congress, BJP was able to form the government in Manipur with the supports of winning allies. Paradoxically, even though it was second in the race in terms of seats won in Manipur, it garnered more vote share – 36.3 percent against Congress sharing 35.1 percent. Practically speaking , vote share is the real mirror of popularity than seats won.

‘To the best of my knowledge’

What is the ‘best knowledge?’Extremely useful is the phrase, ‘to the best of my knowledge’. It is confident and assertive, denoting the fact that the statement to which it pertains is made after due consideration and a thorough, conscientious mental review — and yet, implicit in it is a certain modesty, humility and open-mindedness implying that perhaps someone else’s knowledge could be even better. Or, ‘my’ knowledge could become even ‘better’ in the future.

A hope of second meeting with dear mum who is no more in physical world

(A tribute to beloved Mom on the 1st Death Anniversary, 10th March, 2017)
Have you lost your loved one in life? The pain, the grief, and the feeling of helplessness can seem unbearable. At such times, we need to go to God’s word for comfort. The Bible helps us to understand how Jehovah and Jesus feel about death.

As is the case in many nationalist societies around the world, gender justice and rights have for long remained marginal for Nagas. We were told that such issues could wait till the Naga people gained their freedom. In that context, what does it mean to bestow any sort of rights on women in Naga society?

International Women’s Day: A Hindi tract with feminist ideals from a time before feminism was known

Seemantini Updesh (A Tract for A Married Woman), is a rare 19th-century Hindi work rooted in what we now recognise as feminist epistemology. The author is an anonymous Hindu woman (ek agyat hindu aurat, the book says), who perhaps lacked the facility to write Hindi in the Devanagari script. So, she dictated the text to one Pandit Rishi Ram Gaur of Ludhiana, a man who understandably had a better grasp of the newly standardised Hindi as well as the script .

Polls hardly matter in this Manipur district as Nagas close ranks behind a long economic blockade
