IMPHAL, April 27: Nahakpam Foundation for Development will be organising the weeklong 4th State Level Watermelon Festival 2015 from May 25 onwards.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a press conference, secretary N Shanta Singh said the festival will create an integrated market for the local watermelon farmers who produced more than 200 tons of watermelon fruits every year.<\/p>\n
He said farmers can also register for participation in a best farmer competition which carries a cash prize of Rs 50000. Registration for the competition is open till May 10, he said.<\/p>\n
The competition will however be judged by a panel who will visit the registered competitors farm after May 10, he continued.<\/p>\n
As in the past years, the festival will also have seminars on agri-entrepreneurships, co-operative farming and other opportunities on May 28 and 29, he said.<\/p>\n
A blood donation camp under the aegis of the Red Cross Society will also be conducted during the festival and on May 27, there will be a painting competition on watermelon in two categories- class III to VI and class VII to IX, he added.<\/p>\n
He further appealed to the farmers of the State to participate in the festival.<\/p>\n\n
