Imphal, Jan 3 NNN: The Senior Citizens for Society (SCS) hopes the electorate of Manipur will elect only the \u2018right persons\u2019 in the ensuing polls to the Manipur Assembly and said in the last two decades the State has witnessed money and muscle powers that greatly influenced elections.
\n\u201cThe public are the one which will directly help forming the government so let us vote for the right person as we have suffered much\u201d, SCS president N. Binoy told a press conference here today.
\nIn the last two decades, most of the Parliamentary and Assembly polls were engulfed by money and muscle power, Binoy said, adding that many MPs having criminal records are now in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
\nHe added, in the 15th Lok Sabha, 543 members were elected, out of which at least 300 are \u2018crorepatis\u2019 and said the number of MPs who are having criminal records like murder is 223.
\nThe SCS president elaborated that there are about 100 crorepatis in the Rajya Sabha and among them, industrialist Bajaj is known as the most affluent MP in the House.
\nFifty crorepati candidates were also contested in the 2011 Assam Legislative Assembly polls and out of these 47 won their seats.
\nBinoy also appealed the people of Manipur to get rid of \u201cmoney and grand feast\u201d that often buy their votes but to choose individuals who can sacrifice with a clear vision and further urged the electorate to think twice while casting their votes in the coming general election.<\/p>\n\n
