Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma, whose niece committed suicide on the Amity University campus in Gurgaon last week, pitched for a law on Monday to ensure security to students.<\/p>\n
The legislation should address the discrimination faced by youngsters from the North- East studying or living in different parts of the nation, he said.<\/p>\n
Sangma had earlier accused Amity University of racial discrimination for his niece Dana Silva Sangma’s suicide in her hostel room last week. He said stringent action should be taken to deter recurrence of such incidents in the future.<\/p>\n
Dana, who was an MBA student, committed suicide after she was expelled for allegedly cheating at an examination. The chief minister, however, disagreed with the university’s version and claimed that the incident in the examination hall could not have provoked her to kill herself.<\/p>\n
