SHILLONG, July 27 NNN: After the banned outfit Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) came into action in the state to mark its re-emergence, the state administration has beefed up security in all parts of Shillong before August 15 to avoid any untoward incident.
\nThe district administration has pulled up its socks and a thick blanket of security has been installed in all major locations in the city.
\n\u201cNight patrolling and surveillance have been intensified to ensure full proof security along the state for the people,\u201d a senior police official said.
\nHe also added that police check points and gates have been installed in the nooks and corner of the district to ensure peace and tranquility.
\n\u201cNakas have been set up at sensitive areas and frisking are being carried out,\u201d official said.
\nWith HNLC coming with an opening warning and claiming that \u2018They (HNLC) are Back\u2019 through a social site, the administration is not taking any chance, official said.
\nIt can be mentioned that HNLC were almost wiped out of the state by the police but recent claiming and activities have put the administration into high alert.
\nIt can be mentioned that on July 02, the outfit opened fired at a police station in the city and showed its activeness.
\nThey then on July 21 the outfit shared a heavy exchange of fire with the police at Kongong village, Jaintia Hills district.
\nFormed in 1992 and proscribed on November 16, 2000, HNLC\u2019s main objective is to transform Meghalaya as a province exclusively for the Khasi tribe and free it from \u2018domination\u2019 by the Garo tribe. Another objective is to fight against the presence of ‘outsiders’, as the HNLC feels that Khasi youth are deprived of the fruits of development in the state.<\/p>\n\n
