IMPHAL, Nov 26 NNN : The ground works for the talks between the government and the Kuki militant outfits are underway and the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) has been informed about this development by the government.
\nKNO spokesman Seilen Haokip said that the files have been proceeded by the government as part of the ground works for the talks.
\n\u201cWe have been informed by the Manipur government officials that the files have been proceeded and the hectic ground works are underway for the commencement of the talks,\u201d stated the KNO leader. When asked if the officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) have intimated directly with the KNO, Seilen Haokip said,\u201d No, we have not been intimated from the MHA officially nor do we have any knowledge of the Central officials visiting Manipur.\u201d
\nWhen asked if the KNO is hopeful of the talks, Seilen Haokip said, \u201cTalks are inevitable as we have reached this stage now.\u201d
\nMeanwhile, Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC) said that the Kukis do not claim others\u2019 lands.
\nWhen asked about the numerous statements from the Naga organisations pertaining to lands, KSDC leader George Guite said, \u201cWe are not claiming other peoples\u2019 lands. Our claims on lands are supported by documentary proofs. It is a historical fact that whatever land we claimed is that of the Kukis. We will never do what is not legitimate.\u201d
\nGeorge Guite then said that the Kukis avoid any communal approach.
\nMeanwhile, the KSDC is minutely following the development in connection with the talks between the government and the Kuki militant outfits. \u201cWe are closely observing and we are looking forward for talks. We are hopeful of the talks taking place but at the moment we cannot say anything but only to see for some days whether the government is sincere in its approach or not,\u201d said George Guite.
\nThe KSDC had called \u2018public blockade\u2019 from Nov 17 evening to press for the talks with the two umbrella organisations of the Kuki militants\u2014KNO and UPF\u2014but suspended its agitation on November 22 following an assurance from the government that the talks would be started after the ongoing Session.<\/p>\n\n
