IMPHAL, Dec 12 MNS\/NNN: Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi on the occasion of 73rd Nupi Lal Day appealed to the people of the state to work together to bring harmony, prosperity and peace by becoming the role model of the women of the state who had shown valor and unity during the two historical episodes of Nupi Lal, 1904 and 1939 fought against the British.
\nAttending the function of 73rd Nupi Lal anniversary organized at the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex here on Wednesday, Chief Minister O Ibobi stated that the nerve of the women of Manipur is fondly remembered every year on this day when they daringly fought the mighty British in the two historical women wars.
\nThe first Nupi Lal (Women’s War, in literal term) took place on 1904 and the second war on December 12, 1939 when women of Manipur revolted against the British for causing artificial famine in the state.
\nAcknowledging that the then audacity of Manipuri women is still existing in the vein of the present generation, the Chief Minister cited example to support his observation by saying that Manipuri womenfolk always contribute prominently in every issue confronting in the state.
\nHe appealed to the people to work together to bring harmony, prosperity and peace by becoming the role model of the women of the state who had shown valor and unity during the two women wars that fought against the British.
\nManipur Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam was also present at the event. He said the key role played by Manipuri women and their bravery which everyone knows from a very long time is beyond comparison. He added Manipuri women have been consistently contributing in every sphere of life of the state ranging from family to the society.
\n\u201cLet us learn the lesson of peaceful co-existence with a feeling of oneness on this occasion which shows the strength of unity,\u201d the Deputy Chief Minister urged the people.
\nGaikhangam reiterated that bandh and blockades can never bring any solution, saying that the time has come for all the ethnic communities in the state to stride out on the pace of development.
\nPrior to the Nupi Lal Day function organized by the state Government, Chief Minister Ibobi and Deputy Chief Minster Gaikhangam led the people in paying homage to the Nupi Lal memorial statue at the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex. Th Lokeshor, Speaker, Manipur Assembly, ministers, MLAs and other dignitaries also paid floral tribute at the memorial complex.
\nTroupes from Nupilal Memorial Association and Khongjom War Memorial Society also staged a Nupi Lal drama at the event.
\nThe 73rd December 12th Observation Committee too observed the day at THAU Ground, Imphal. Th Iboyaima, president, Irabot Foundation, Th Ramani, secretary, All Manipur Women\u2019s Social Reformation and Development Samaj, L Memchoubi, president, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur, A Janaki, president, Momnu Erikkhombi Lup, M Purnimashi, president, Ching-Tam United Women Association and RK Sanahanbi, president Kanglei Ima Lup graced the function.
\nSocial activist, Dr Dhanbir Laishram and RK Ranendrajit, editor, Freedom who were also present at the function spoke in connection of the observation as resource persons.
\nThe day was also observed by the All Manipur Nupi Marup at Gandhi Memorial Hall, Imphal. Earlier, a public rally was organized by the women organization. The rally stated from Uripok Chakrikom culminated at the GM Hall.
\nT Pramodini Devi, Prinicipal, TG Higher Secondary School, Imphal, A Lala, in-charge, Nupi Marup and S Sorojini Devi, president, All Manipur Nupi Marup graced the function held at the GM Hall. The event was also observed in different parts of the state including outside.<\/p>\n\n
