IMPHAL, Feb 14 NNN : The government will construct over one lakh latrines in Manipur from 2015 to 2022.
\nCommunication and Capacity Development Unit (CCDU) of Public Health & Engineering Department, Manipur today said target has been set under Nirman Bharat Abhiyan (NBA) for construction of as much as 1, 11, 000 sanitary latrines from 2015 to 2022 in Manipur.
\nCCDU Director L Swamikanta while addressing at a seminar on \u201cOne-day Sensitization Workshop on Role of Media in Implementation of NBA,\u201d said NBA was introduced in Manipur in 1986 with the sole aim to construct sanitary latrine at every household in the state.
\nHundreds of sanitary latrines have been made in different villages in Imphal East and Imphal West districts under the scheme, saying 1, 11, 000 more sanitary latrines would be constructed in the state from 2015 to 2022.
\nRs 4,500 was paid for each sanitary latrine under the scheme, but now it has been increased to Rs 6, 000, he said.
\nUnder the scheme sponsored by Government of India, a number of community sanitary complexes, anganwadi centres and school toilets have also been constructed in the state, he added.
\nHe said he wants AIR Imphal\u2019s Good Morning programme to ask its listeners about the condition of their latrines while talking to them.
\nThe CCDU director also said the unit has taken steps to turn villages like Mapijang, Bungtea and Chiru in Kangpokpi in Senapati district into modern villages under NBA.<\/p>\n\n
