New Delhi, August 19, 2014:<\/strong>\u00a0Fragrance of the North-eastern films to traverse through the National Capital – Delhi! This is an opportunity for Delhiites to get as close as possible to North-East India later this month, without stepping out of the national capital.\u00a0The Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF) is organizing \u201cFragrances from the North East\u201d, a three-day festival of cinema from the region in a freshly-refurbished Siri Fort Auditorium complex.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Giving an absolute North-Eastern experience to the visitors, the film screenings will be supplemented by cultural programmes, handicraft exhibitions, food stalls and much more during the festival that will take place\u00a0during\u00a0August 22-24<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

To be inaugurated on August 22 by the Hon\u2019ble Minister for Information & Broadcasting Shri Prakash Javadekar, the festival will be attended by several leading film personalities from the region, including internationally-acclaimed filmmakers Jahnu Barua and Aribam Syam Sharma, and actors Danny Dengzongpa, Seema Biswas, Adil Hussain, Geetanjali Thapa and many more.<\/p>\n

Mr. Shankar Mohan, Director, Directorate of Film Festivals said,<\/strong>\u00a0“I invite all likeminded of people of Delhi, particularly the young to come and experience the three day North East Film Festival -”Fragrances from the North East” happening\u00a0 at Sirifort complex from the\u00a022nd to the 24th August<\/span>. These fragrances from the NE are wafting into the Capital city after many years.”<\/p>\n

“Come and enjoy the food, films and handicraft of the North East. A window to the North East opens in Sirifort Complex on 22nd August, don’t miss this opportunity to experience, feel and enjoy the fragrances wafting through this Capital city.” Mr. Mohan further added.<\/p>\n

The festival will begin with the screening of Mizo feature film \u201cKhawnglung Run\u201d (The Raid of Khawnglung) which is directed & produced by Mapuia Chongthu within a miniscule budget of Rs 12 lakh. This film won many hearts with its visual panache when it was screened as part of the \u2018North-East Focus\u2019 section of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa last year.<\/p>\n

The screening will be preceded by a cultural show designed especially for the event by the highly popular singer-composer PAPON, which will take the audience on a musical journey of the region.<\/p>\n

The festival also include two National Award winning films of this year: Jahnu Barua\u2019s \u201cAjeyo\u201d (Assamese) and Pradip Kurbah\u2019s \u201cRi: A Homeland of Uncertainty\u201d (Khasi, Meghalaya).<\/p>\n

Representing Sikkim would be Prashant Rasaily\u2019s Gurkhali film \u201cKatha\u201d, while Manipur, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh will be represented by Oinam Gautam Singh\u2019s Manipuri language film \u201cPhijigee Mani\u201d, Joseph Pulinthanath\u2019s Kokborok language film \u201cYarwng\u201d and Ahsan Mujid\u2019s Monpa language film \u201cSonam\u201d respectively.<\/p>\n

From Nagaland, a short film titled \u201cBamboo Shoots\u201d directed by Steven Ao and a documentary titled \u201cGoing the Distance\u201d directed by Tiainla Jamir will be screened. Kurbah\u2019s \u201cRI\u201d will be the closing film of the festival and its screening on August 24 will be preceded by a cultural event that will see classical pianist Nise Meruno\u2019s performance of Naga folk fusion and choir group Nagaland Singing Ambassadors\u2019 rendition of Naga folk-based choir.<\/p>\n

Entry to musical performance and cinemas FREE on first come first basis. A Photo Identity Card is required for security reasons.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
