IMPHAL, Nov 9 NNN : Representatives of seven non-Congress political parties in Manipur have submitted a joint memorandum to the Speaker of Lok Sabha, Meira Kumar and to Sh. Sharat Yadav, national president of Janata Dal (United), who is also an MP and convenor of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on November 5 highlighting the issues of Loktak scam and also on the alleged nepotism, favouratism and corruption reeling at the State’s Assembly Secretariat.
The representatives of the political parties comprised of Dr. M. Nara Singh, secretary of Manipur State, Communist Party of India (CPI); M. Tombi Singh, president of Manipur State unit, Janata Dal (United); Sh. Shantikumar Sharma, president of Manipur State, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP); Sharat Salam, state secretary, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Manipur State; G. Manihar Goshami, working president of Maninpur State, Janata Dal (Secular); A.C. Jayenta Singh, general secretary (Administration), Manipur Peoples’ Party (MPP) and R.K. Shibachandra, general secretary (Administration) and spokesperson of All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Manipur State.
The team also interacted with other Central leaders and discussed the issues of Loktak Scam, Inner Line Permit and the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).
Addressing newspersons today in Imphal, M. Tombi stated that the JD (U) along with NDA are discussing to chalk out steps to repeal the AFSPA from Manipur. M. Tombi then alleged that the State Assembly secretariat has become a corruption zone.
On the Government of India-NSCN (IM) peace talk, he said various political parties of the State welcomed the negotiation but the solution should not be at the cost of the territorial integrity and also not against the public interest of Manipur and informed that Sharad Yadav, national president of JD (U) has given assurance that the integrity of the State will be safeguarded.
Regarding on the issue of Loktak Lake scam, Sharat Salam said the team had vindicated the matter to leaders of national parties and informed that Sitaram Yechury, senior leader of CPI (M) had assured that the matter would be brought up in the Parliament.
Dr. M. Nara said the team also met with national leaders including A.B. Bardhan and Gurudas Das Gupta and discussed the issue of Loktak Lake scam while informing that the national leaders would be sending a letter to the Prime Minister to highlight the matter.
He further said various national party leaders had already approved the Jeevan Reddy’s Commission on AFSPA that stated that the act should be removed from the State and pledged that his party will support movements taken up to repeal the act from the state.
While stressing on the need to discuss threadbare on issues of corruption, territorial integrity, ILP and GOI-NSCN (IM) peace talk, L. Umananda said various political parties of the State should work sincerely to bring lasting solutions to all those standing issues.
