IMPHAL, March 11: Manipur Cabinet has finally decided to give its approval to set up Manipur state rural development Agency and discussed to empower the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) on Monday. A Cabinet meeting held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat has decided to give approval on setting up of Manipur state rural development agency, Government spokesperson and Education minister M Okendro told reporters.
One set up, then the agency will monitor the MMNREGS and Housing Scheme being implemented in the state under Indira Waj Yojana, he said. Also, the agency will submit clearance certificates of the schemes on regular basis, he said and mentioned previously the DRDA was entrusted with it.
Simultaneously, the Cabinet also discussed seriously on the issue of devolution of power to the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs), but it did not take a tangible decision on it, Okendro said. However, he said the matter will be discussed again in another meeting of the Cabinet, informing an earlier Cabinet meeting had given approval for decentralization of power to the ADCs for some Government Departments.
It further approved to appoint former Manipur Chief Secretary Rakesh, retired IAS as Chairman of 14th Finance Commission, he added.
