LAMKA, April 16: An unidentified person was injured in a shooting incident at Zenhang Lamka today.

Today’s is the second shooting incident in as many days in the district. Yesterday two persons were shot at and were hospitalised.

Today’s episode occurred at SB Hotel Zenhang Lamka, opposite Jesse guest house.

The incident happen within 100 meter of the CCpur Police Station.

Eye witnesses accounted that the unidentified man was shot received a bullet on his lower cheek which penetrated through his cheek on the other side.

He also received bullet injuries on his leg, sources confirmed.

Police said they are ascertaining the identity of the victim and that he will be taken to RIMS, Imphal for further treatment as his condition is serious.

Meanwhile the information secretary of ZRO said that the outfit is perturbed and seriously concerned by the repeated incidents of shooting.

He further added that the organization will not be a mute spectator in this kind of act at their area.

IMPHAL, APRIL 16: The final randomisation for polling personnel stationed at Bishnupur District Polling Stations was held yesterday by the General Observer, DP Yadav, at the 5 CDC, NIC Office, Bishnupur for the upcoming Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency Election which is to be held tomorrow, said a DIPR statement.

It also said that the final randomisation of the polling personnel of Imphal East district was also held yesterday at the NIC Office, Imphal.

General Observer, Saurav Chowdhary, District Election Officer, S. Joy Singh and SDOs were present during the programme. A total of 2090 (excluding reserve) Polling Officers will be stationed at 418 Polling Stations in the Imphal East District, the DIPR stated in another press release.

Tera fire victim dies

IMPHAL, April 16: The 42 year old man who was battling for his life at the Shija Hospital after receiving 80 percent burn injuries during a devastating fire on Tuesday

IMPHAL, April 16: The 42 year old man who was battling for his life at the Shija Hospital after receiving 80 percent burn injuries during a devastating fire on Tuesday night succumbed today around 7 am.

Oinam Sanayaima Singh, 42, son of O Biramani of Ningthoukhong Kha Leikai received 80 percent burn injury in a devastating fire on Tuesday night at a leased property used as an Oil Storage area at Tera Khuraijam Leirak on the eastern side of the SAI complex some 50 meters away from CIPET boys’ hostel.

He was rushed to the RIMS from where he was shifted to Shija Hospital.

The dead body has been handed over to family members after post mortem was conducted at RIMS morgue on Wednesday noon.

IMPHAL, APRIL 16: The United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) has clarified in a press release that Limminlal Mate alias Lalpu who was arrested by the Commando unit of Imphal West on April 10 at Imphal had been a KNLF member who had surrendered to the State Government in October 2011.

However due to the Government’s unfulfilled promises of providing basic rehabilitation facilities he was kept in the operational area of the UKLF with the knowledge of some government agencies particularly the Assam Rifles refusing free movement outside the UKLF’s area remaining in Sugnu area of Chandel District, it said. Therefore the charges against him for the kidnapping of a truck driver from Kotlen area and extortion of Rs 11 lakh is untrue and arresting him when he came to Imphal with his family for medical check-up on April 10 by the Police commandos in Imphal was also accidental, stated the release.

IMPHAL, April 16: As part of the nationwide convocation, the 27th Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) convocation was held at Asha Jina Complex on Wednesday.

The national level convocation was reportedly held simultaneously at IGNOU, Maidan Garhi complex, New Delhi with the secretary of the Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, Ashak Thakur, and the vice chancellor of the Sri Lanka Open University, Dr Vijitha Nanayakkara attending the convocation as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

Addressing the convocation, participants at Regional Centre Imphal located at Asha Jina complex, former director in charge, Professor Memcha Loitongbam, MIMS of Manipur University said that Indira Gandhi National Open University has become the leader in providing education in open and distance education.

She further added that Open Distance Learning (ODL) system is an indispensable education system and it is the only means which can increase the gross enrolment ration of the nation.

IMPHAL April 16: A 23 year-old was killed in a single vehicle accident involving a Tata 407 around 3pm on Tuesday along the inter village road from Heirok Ingalok to Konaikhong in Thoubal district.

Three others were also injured and are presently admitted at RIMS. Their details are awaited.

The dead has been identified as Saikhom Nobin, 23, son of Nageshwor of Heirok Part III, Ingalok.

The Tata 407 was coming from Esingthenbi from Ingalok with Nobin and some others on board.

Nobin died at the spot with head injuries and his body was deposited at the JNIMS morgue Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, family members have claimed the body after post mortem was conducted at the JNIMS morgue.

Thoubal police have taken up a case regarding the incident.
