IMPHAL, Dec 20: Lainingthou Sanamahi Sanapung (LSSP) has earnestly appealed to all the organisations/groups to refrain from calling bandh and blockade on the eve of Meitei Chanu Contest 2017 to be held on December 23 at Bheigyachandra Open Air Theatre (BOAT), Palace Compound. In a press meet held at Manipur Press Club here today, LSSP general secretary Angom Lonja said that the first Meitei Chanu Contest was held in 2016 with an aim to make Meitei women understand about the tradition and customs of the sacred Sanamahi religion. He said that all necessary arrangements have been made to make the Meitei Chanu Contest 2017 a grand success. He elaborated that interaction with elderly persons staying at old age homes, rally at Kangla and cooking competition at Ibuthou Marjing Shanglen are part of the contest. He informed that contestants will also be made to perform daily women activities at Wangoi Mamang Leikai.
He also appealed to the people from different walks of life to participate in the contest.

IMPHAL, Dec 20: SKY Hospital ye again provided free treatment with non-operative (device) closure of holes in the heart on December 16 for three small children, age ranging from 3 years to 7 years having very large holes in the heart called Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) with enlarged heart and severe pulmonary arterial hypertension. The patients are Ksh Ashita Devi (3 years 8 months) d/o Chhatradhari of Kakching Turel Wangma, Kakching district; M Borex (4 years 6 months) s/o Brojen of Singjamei Waikhom Leikai and Vungsiansiam (6 years 5 months) d/o Goukhanvung of New Lamka, Churachandpur district. According to a press release of the hospital, these children will grow up as normal persons from now onwards although they will need a closer follow up in the following few months as per the interventional guidelines. Without closure of the heart holes, they would not survive long. The treatment was sponsored by National Health Mission, Manipur under RBSK.

IMPHAL, Dec 20: There is growing suspicion that some staff of Treasury Office, Lamphel, are resorting to unethical practices regarding the pay bill submitted by various State Government Departments for providing salaries to the employees.
According to an information received by The Sangai Express from a source, there are no signs of unethical practices while checking the bills of the various Departments by the Treasury office.
However, the source expressed concern at the growing trend of some officials allegedly taking a fee of Rs 100 or Rs 200 from the officials/ employees who come to submit the bills for processing the salaries.
The source further appealed to the authority concerned as well as the State Government to look into the matter at the earliest.

IMPHAL, Dec 20: Keibul Lamjao National Park RO Range II, along with the park’s Unique Wildlife Protection Committee, handed over a young Hog Deer (Kharsa) fawn which was rescued by one Asem Inaobi of Mayang Imphal Thana Anilongbi, to Manipur Zoological garden today.
Secretary of Unique Wildlife Protection Committee, Elangbam Budha, has urged the people not to disturb or cause any harm to the Hog deers as it is currently their mating season.
He also pointed out that last year, the population count of the hog deers was at 16.
