New Delhi, June 30 : The All India Tribal Students’ Association, Delhi (AITSA) expressed serious concern on the practice of denial or delaying the release of the post matric scholarship of SC/ST students by officials of the Department of SC/ST welfare, Government of Manipur. Post Matric Scholarships of several students hailing from remote hill areas of the state who are pursuing studies outside the state are reported misplaced or taken away by unknown persons when they or their relatives enquire in the office of the department located in Imphal.
Post Matric Scholarship, being the hope and source of encouragement for SC/ST students, stealing or demanding bribes for releasing the same amounts to sheer frustration and a sense utter despondency. Such cheap conducts of the concerned officials deserve no leniency.
The Association urged the Minister for SC/ST welfare of the state government of Manipur to immediately look into this shameful practice.
In the event of any further complaint, if received; the Association will register criminal case against the dealing officials hereafter according to K. Zou, President.

Imphal, June 30 NNN: A 35-year-old woman was found dead in the Wangoi River under Wangoi Police Station in Imphal West early morning Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Mutum Kunjeshwori, wife of S Muhindro, a resident of Irilbung Machahal in Imphal East.
The body of Kunjeshworiu was spotted by some local residents in the river while fishing in the early morning.
Kunjeshwori was a mother of two and that she was also pregnant. Police picked up the body and later kept it to RIMS mortuary.
She had been sick for the last two days, her husband’s family told the media and that her sickness might have been caused by her post malarial infection.
Kunjeshwori was suppose to go to a doctor to treat her illness on the coming Monday, RK Memcha, sister of her husband added.
Muhindro had conversation with his wife as usual around 6:30 pm yesterday in the kitchen as she was making food. But, to the husband’s surprise, she disappeared suddenly from the kitchen room and she went missing since then, Memcha further said.
The couple did not have any quarrel in the kitchen while talking to each other, she maintained.
Memcha said that the family believes her sister-in-law committed suicide.
On the other hand, Kunjeshwori’s parental family insisted that her son made a call to the family informing that her mother had gone missing the same day and blamed her husband’s family for carelessness about her illness for long days.
They had no knowledge about her malarial infection but she suffered from high fever, her brother Mutum Shantikumar told the media at RIMS mortuary.
Kunjeshwori’ s parental home is located at Sagolband Moirang Hanuba Leirak in Imphal West.
Suspecting foul play rather than suicide behind his sister’s death, Shantikumar further asked why his brother-in-law has been in the custody of Irilbung Police Station after surrendering to them.
He said his family will not take the body but it will be kept three days at the mortuary and within these days the husband’s family should decide whether to claim the body. However, the body will be handed over to them only after they produce the accused, he added.

New Delhi, June 30 (ANI): Congress Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday took potshots at each other over former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s latest book in which he dismissed speculations of being reluctant to appoint Sonia Gandhi as the Prime Minister in 2004.
“As per his (Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s) words, we can clearly make out that he indicated towards the leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party, who never wanted to see Sonia Gandhi as the Prime Minister of the country and he hinted that these people had come to pressurize him that if the Congress Party or the UPA wishes to make Sonia Gandhi as the Prime Minister, then Abdul Kalam should not accept it,” said Chaturvedi.
Chaturvedi further said that Sonia Gandhi did not accept the top post despite having the constitutional right of becoming the Prime Minister.
“With such remarks, Sonia Gandhi does not gain the image of mother India, even today she is playing the role of super Prime Minister and she holds power without accountability. Therefore, it would be shocking, if the Congress Party calls it a big sacrifice,” said BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.
Dr. Kalam states in his soon-to-be-released book named Turning Points, A Journey Through Challenges, in the chapter titled Controversial Decisions that if Gandhi wanted to become PM in 2004, that he would have had ‘no option but to appoint her’.
He discloses that his office had readied a letter inviting Ms. Gandhi to form the government as Prime Minister but that she surprised him by nominating Manmohan Singh in her place.

Mail News Service
New Delhi, June 30 : The Central Bureau of Investigation has today filed a charge sheet against the then Chairman; the then Member; the then Secretary, all of Tariff Authority for Major Ports (TAMP) and a New Mumbai based private International Container Firm U/s 120-B of IPC and 13(2) r/w 13(1) (d) of PC Act, 1988 in the court of Special Judge for CBI cases, Mumbai.
The investigation was taken up in December 2010 after registering a case against the then Chairman and Members, all of TAMP (Tariff Authority for Major Ports) under the Ministry of Shipping and others for showing favour to a private International Container terminal of Nava Sheva, New Mumbai
on the allegations of delaying the Tariff review for a period of five years from 2000 to 2005 & allowing the said private firm to accumulate huge profits by way of tariff collection from port users on old rates & increased traffic inflow; allowing the said firm to retain 50% of the surplus accumulated for the period 2000 to 2005 which was Rs.472 crores(approx) in the tariff order of July 2005 by retrospective application of the tariff guidelines issued by the Ministry of Shipping on 31st March, 2005 and allowing the entire royalty running around Rs. 116 crores(approx) as a cost item for the period 2000 to 2005 in the July 2005 tariff order without looking into if the operator was making a profit or was running in loss & also not following the guidelines of Ministry of Shipping.
The said firm was also allowed to retain an amount of Rs.236 crores(approx) which was collected from the port users in an illegal manner & also gained a benefit of Rs. 116 crores(approx) by treating royalty as a cost item and recovering the same from the port users for the period 2000 to 2005.
The investigation revealed the involvement of the then Chairman and other officials of TAMP for showing favour to said firm in terms of treatment of surplus and royalty. By the actions of TAMP, the said firm stood to again Rs. 236 crores(approx) in the surplus adjusted & another Rs. 236 crores(approx) as an interest free resource for a period of five years and also the entire royalty paid to landlord port as an item of cost totalling to Rs.116 crores (approx). It was also revealed that the said firm further got an additional benefit of Rs.265 crores (approx) due to the incorrect computation of surplus by the officials of TAMP for this period.
After thorough investigation, CBI filed a charge sheet.
The public is reminded that the above findings are based on the investigation done by CBI and evidence collected by it. Under the Indian Law, the accused are presumed to be innocent till their guilt is finally established after a fair trial.
