IMPHAL, August 13: Around 180 fuel tankers coming to Imphal are now left stranded at Khatkhati in Assam and some other places in Dimapur due to the 48 hours bandh imposed by United Naga Council in Naga inhabited areas with its “Alternative Arrangement” demand starting yesterday midnight, sources said.
Also, some fuel tankers which were coming to Imphal on National Highway 37 are also stranded at Jiribam due to the said bandh, it said.
It may be mentioned here that the 48 hours UNC bandh is being followed by another 48 hours bandh called by Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC) with its demand to the government to initiate political dialogue with the SoO signed Kuki militants.
The KDSC bandh is again followed by general strike and bandh imposed by various militant outfits operating in the north-eastern region including CorCom boycotting the Independence Day of India starting from the midnight of August 14.
The fuel tankers will resume its services from August 15 evening after all the bandhs conclude.
On the other hand, it is speculated that the fuel shortage problem in the state might come to an end by August 16 as the new road at Phesama has been opened to traffic.
