{"id":12593,"date":"2011-07-25T19:58:42","date_gmt":"2011-07-25T23:58:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kanglaonline.com\/?p=21172"},"modified":"2011-07-25T19:58:42","modified_gmt":"2011-07-25T23:58:42","slug":"%e2%80%9cautonomous-council-proposal-is-to-address-backwardness-with-seriousness%e2%80%9d-imchen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.manipur.org\/news\/2011\/07\/25\/%e2%80%9cautonomous-council-proposal-is-to-address-backwardness-with-seriousness%e2%80%9d-imchen\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cAutonomous Council proposal is to address backwardness with seriousness\u201d: Imchen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>  <script type=\"text\/javascript\">var addthis_product='wpp-252';var addthis_options=\"Google+1\"<\/script><script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/s7.addthis.com\/js\/250\/addthis_widget.js#pubid=kanglaonline\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>By: Oken Jeet Sandham<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_21173\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\" style=\"width: 260px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kanglaonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Imkong-L-Imchen.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/kanglaonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Imkong-L-Imchen.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"280\" class=\"size-full wp-image-21173\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nagaland Home Minister Imkong L Imchen<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>KOHIMA, Jul 25 (NEPS): Nagaland Home Minister Imkong L Imchen said the State Cabinet\u2019s decision to recommend a proposal to the Government of India for granting \u201cAutonomous Council status\u201d to the Eastern Naga areas comprising of four districts&#8212;Mon, Tuensang, Longlen and Kiphire&#8212;was to address the \u201cbackwardness\u201d of the region with seriousness.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with the NEPS here today, the outspoken Home Minister said the backwardness of the ENPO area was \u201cgenuine\u201d and the \u201cGovernment has to address it with seriousness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd for them to become proud and equal citizens of the state, we have taken this decision,\u201d Imchen said and further elaborated that by such move, the \u201csubstantial solution is brought about and the people out there do not feel backwardness anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stating that the issue of the ENPO was \u201ccommon Naga problem and not only confined to them (ENPO),\u201d the Home Minister further explained that the \u201cproposal\u201d for the \u201cAutonomous Council\u201d was only \u201cin \u201cprinciple\u201d nature. \u201cWe have to work out what kind of mechanism and modalities should be there for it and that should be acceptable to both (State and ENPO),\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>Asked why the State had taken such a hasty decision and whether it had any political motive behind such move, Imchen denied having such political move and also made it clear that it was not a hasty decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe people should not misconstrue the decision of the Cabinet as political motive,\u201d the Home Minister stated. \u201cWe are serious to address the issue and we are going to take up the matter seriously with the Government of India.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI personally feel that the Center, State and ENPO should join hands to address the issue in right perspective,\u201d he said. \u201cSo that Nagas can live as equal partners and citizens of the state with harmony.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked whether ENPO would accept the Government\u2019s proposal, Imchen said, \u201cI hope they will accept.\u201d \u201cBut I sincerely feel the ENPO leadership as well as people there should appreciate the proposal of the State,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/~r\/Kanglaonline\/~4\/9ZpOt0tPtxA\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"syndicated-attribution\">Read more \/ Original news source: <a href=\"http:\/\/feedproxy.google.com\/~r\/Kanglaonline\/~3\/9ZpOt0tPtxA\/\">http:\/\/feedproxy.google.com\/~r\/Kanglaonline\/~3\/9ZpOt0tPtxA\/<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By: Oken Jeet Sandham KOHIMA, Jul 25 (NEPS): Nagaland Home Minister Imkong L Imchen said the State Cabinet\u2019s decision to recommend a proposal to the Government of India for granting&#8230;
