IMPHAL, Oct 30 NNN : The \u2018Chagah Festival 2012\u2019 of the Liangmai community was celebrated today at Taphou Liangmai, Senapati district headquarters with festive fervour under the theme \u2018Culture Identifies a Community.\u2019
\nThe festival began with special activities of traditional portent with igniting sacred fire whose fresh glow replacing hearts, the omen reading from the war sport \u201cPeng Kepbo,\u201d a traditional mode of archery targeting a wooden human figurine. The figurine satiates the performer\u2019s belief if the arrows were to hit head, chest and navel or belly as signs of success and traditionally the Liangmai community celebrates the festival for 5-7 days with delicious dishes and hallowing drinks, etc.
\nSpeaking on the occasion, Mao constituency MLA L Dikho said the Liangmai community which has rich culture and tradition can be seen growing fast.
\nHe hailed that all the cultural dances and many other colourful performances shown in the festival were really striking but the MLA suggested that the state tribal communities should pay more attention on preserving the tribal cultural heritage to fulfill the blessing of God.<\/p>\n\n
