IMPHAL, Nov 11 NNN: Showing serious concern over increasing crime against women in Manipur, the All Manipur Nupi Marup has decided to observe the \u2018Nupi Lal Day\u2019 2012 (War of women) in the form of a mass public rally to register a protest against crime and violence against women and also against corruption.
\nThe decision was taken during a joint meeting of 40 different branches of AMNM held at Irabat Bhawan, Rupmahal Tank, AMNM president S Sorojini told a press conference.
\nShe said that though the movement on women empowerment has been at its highest peak in many countries, the Manipur society is seemed to be exhausted owing to which outrageous activities such as rape cases of girl students, divorce and missing cases of young married women are escalating in the state.
\nConsidering the rising crimes, being a women body AMNM just cannot sit back as a mere spectator, Sorojini said. She also said the women lup (organization) has decided to observe the upcoming Nupi Lal Day under the theme corruption and crime against women\u201d together with a mass rally and another public rally.
\nSorojini also said Manipur has been witnessing an increase in the number of sex workers and the figure is indeed alarming. She demanded that Immoral Act, 1956 should be invoked in the state to hold back such activity.
\nNon-sanctioning of power to the State Women Commission is also an important cause for the increasing crime against women, she pointed out while calling for full implementation of the commission.<\/p>\n\n
