{"id":4993,"date":"2011-04-25T16:59:26","date_gmt":"2011-04-25T20:59:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kanglaonline.com\/?p=17196"},"modified":"2011-04-25T16:59:26","modified_gmt":"2011-04-25T20:59:26","slug":"the-beasts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.manipur.org\/news\/2011\/04\/25\/the-beasts\/","title":{"rendered":"The beasts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>  <script type=\"text\/javascript\">var addthis_product='wpp-252';<\/script><script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/s7.addthis.com\/js\/250\/addthis_widget.js#pubid=kanglaonline\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>A poem by Bobo Meitei on the unchanging nature of people, and how degraded we all have become, though we all say we living in a modern world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The beasts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Trenches have been dug,<br \/> Deeper trenches have been dug.<br \/> More are to come,<br \/> More men are at work.<br \/> Now they have sandbags,<br \/> Sandbags to conceal human heads.<br \/> Behind them men have ducked down.<\/p>\n<p>Their rifles glimmer,<br \/> Their shone rifles rest.<br \/> Then the orders cry,<br \/> The resting rifles crack.<br \/> Lives fall.<\/p>\n<p>Soon makeshifts coffins arrive,<br \/> They arrive in helicopters,<br \/> They arrive with clean flags.<br \/> Fallen lives are no more visible.<br \/> But the sandbags are visible.<br \/> The rifles change hands.<br \/> Everybody knows the lives,<br \/> are in the makeshift coffins.<br \/> Everybody knows the coffins,<br \/> will be wrapped in flags.<\/p>\n<p>The bullets didn&#8217;t know names,<br \/> They didn&#8217;t know flags either.<br \/> But they did what they were supposed to do.<\/p>\n<p>They want more and more,<br \/> They need  reasons,<br \/> The reason is land,<br \/> And they have to kill for that land.<br \/> The reason is dignity.<br \/> They deny other ,their dignity.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t.<\/p>\n<p>Have they changed in centuries?<br \/> Nothing!<br \/> Have they changed in centuries?<br \/> Oh, yes! In appearance!<br \/> Have they changed in centuries?<br \/> Oh, yes!
