IMPHAL, March 30: Proscribed outfit PREPAK has wished the people of Manipur on the occasion of ‘Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba.’<\/p>\n
A statement of the outfit signed by its assistant secretary, publicity and propaganda, LeibakNgakpa Luwang has said the day is inseparable with the people of the land.<\/p>\n
The People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) wish the people of the land on the coming of such an important festival, it said.<\/p>\n
It said that the day has been observed since the days of King ‘Leinung Lonja Pakhangba.’<\/p>\n
In the past, ‘Pana lakpas,’ pana leaders of Khurai Pana, Wangkhei Pana, Khwai Pana and Yaiskul Pana in their traditional dresses would have strode on their ponies in their respective localities a day ahead of Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba to announce the arrival of the new year, said the statement. <\/p>\n
Further according to the statement, during the reign of Meidingu Kiyamba (1467-1508) instead of the four ‘pana lakpa’, a single individual called as the ‘Hiyangloi’ was charge to make the announcement.<\/p>\n\n
