IMPHAL, January 10: Heavy gun fight was reportedly exchanged this morning between a combined team of 10 Assam Rifles and 9 Dogra Regiment with suspected ZUF militant at Khumji hillock, under Noney police station, Tamenglong district.

Reports reaching here said that on receiving information of the presence of heavily armed militants at the Khumji hillock, the combined team had surrounded the area since yesterday.

The troops reportedly came under heavy firing from the militants as they advanced towards their (militant) camp around 7 am this morning.

The troops also retaliated to the firing, said the report.

Heavy firing was exchanged between both sides for over two hours but no casualties were reported during the gun fight.

Meanwhile, suspected militants launched a grenade attack accompanied by incessant firing at the troop of C-coy 143 CRPF at Irang under Tamenglong police station at around 7 am today, informed a police source.

However, no casualty has been reported till now, said the source.
