IMPHAL, February 5: The United People’s Party of Kangleipak  (UPPK) cadres who were `rescued` by a team of Thoubal commando team on February 3 had come from a camp which the proscribed outfit shares with the Manipur Naga Revolutionary Front (MNRF) and the Katampur Liberation Organisation, KLO of Assam at Leipok of Tamu Sub-division of Myanmar, informed a reliable source.
In all 45 cadres of the UPPK including newly announced functionaries and women cadres were rescued by the team from Moreh during an operation which lasted for about a day starting from the early morning of February 3 and concluding the next day at 3am.
Sources said that there was a woman cadre of the KLO amongst the total four women cadres. The woman is identified as one Sapana Jughy Koch (27) daughter of Sunil Burman of Assam, Bilaspara sub-division, Dubri district.
She used to stay with the three UPPK woman cadres at the camp and they had to bring her along since she cannot be left alone, informed the source.
It is also learnt that the camp has a generator to light up the Leipok camp and switched off every night at 8pm.
The generator was placed at the UPPK’s quarter, and on February 2 soon after the generator was switched off, the 45 cadres including the four women left the camp and made their journey towards Moreh, informed the source.
The source informed that on the evening of February 3 around 3pm, the commando team saw s/s captain Kavi and Yaima of UPPK riding on a Kenbo moped near the Tamil Sangam ground.
After that, seven majors of outfit came in a Toyota SUV which was followed by the other cadres including the KLO woman cadre, informed the source.
All the 45 cadres are now at the 27 Assam Rifles camp at the Old Airport, Kakching Lamkhai, the source added.
