CCPUR, December 14: Under the aegis of Sericulture Dept of Ccpur headed by deputy director Vialkhanthang, an Orientation cum Awareness program for implementation of MSP-2 under SPA was held at Mini Auditorium, Dorcas Guest House, New Lamka.

Singat a/c MLA GS Haupu attending as chief guest, said that sincerity is the most important thing, particularly amongst the farmers. He said that without sincerity there is little success.

He further expressed his amazement while stating that he has found humans replacing worms in the houses provided by his dept for rearing of worms for sericulture.

He further said that sericulturists will get the chance to harvest four times in a calendar year while, harvesting is just once a year in jhum cultivation.

Director, Sericulture, H Ginzamang Simte said that phase one of the project is a failure due to the insincerity of the farmers.

However, Ukhrul and CCpur had been more fortunate than the other districts as both are given preferential statues by the dept due to their potential in the field, he said. Sericulture is the only viable alternative of jhum cultivation as it has the chance to multiple harvest, he said.

He continued that the dept is now ready to distribute oak seeds as the seed had already been supplied to the department. Expert from Silk Board, Bangalore will come to educate the local farmers for a more productive year ahead, he observed.

NE textile promotion board, under the Ministry of Textile will also provide financial aid if the farmers are sincere and properly utilise the 90% subsidy grant provided by the dept, hesaid. Under the policy of direct benefit scheme, the amount/grant for the farmers will be directly entered into their respective accounts, Simte added.
