IMPHAL, May 9: Enraged mob mostly comprising of LPG consumers of Tamenglong district today stormed the office of M/S Thomson Indane Agency Tamenglong and burned office files.

Sources said that the incident was fallout fail talk between the the consumers and the agency concerned held today at Children`™s Park/ Haipou Jadonang`™s Park at Tamenglong district HQs.

The public meeting was organized by Tamenglong LP Gas Domestic Consumer Welfare Association, (TLDCWA).

Despite a lengthy discussion between the association and Thomson Indane Agency, the Thomson Indane Agency failed to come to term. As such, the public meeting also resolved to surrender the Blue Book to the Thomson Indane Agency Tamenglong showing its discontentment on the dealing of the agency.

The M/S Thomson Indane Agency Tamenglong has charging Rs 1700 (for double cylinders) and Rs 1050 (for single cylinder) for changing name/ correction of name in the LPG book. The said agreement has agreed to take only Rs. 350 for change name and correction of name.

In the meantime, Police also rounded up the leaders of Tamenglong LP Gas Domestic Consumer Welfare Association and later released them.

An FIR also charged against the Tamenglong LP Gas Domestic Consumer Welfare Association at Tamenglong police station.

Tamenglong LP Gas Domestic Consumer Welfare Association alleged that the agency had issued many Blue books to consumers. The association alleged that the agency also issued only two/ three filled cylinders in a year.

IMPHAL, May 9: `The insurgents do not spare even the religious leaders from extortion, it is a sin to terrorize them and demand money, please stop such actions,`™ Deputy Home Minister Gaikhangam said at the silver jubilee celebration of St Xavier`™s School at Oksongbung, Moirang today.

The Minister who attended as the chief guest further said that from among the private schools, the mission schools serves with a purpose. There are government schools, but the private schools play a vital role, however from among them, the ones which build up human capital the most and with a true dedication are the missionary schools.

Education is a wide spectrum and the lessons taught at schools and colleges are only a small part of education. Education without imparting a sense of spiritual value is not holistic education and it seems that today, the people have forgotten this, we need to inculcate spiritual and moral values to the children for a better society of tomorrow, he said.

He said that even among the missionary schools, Jesuits Educational Society and Catholic Educational Society. The founders and staffs of the missionary schools are Reverends, Sisters, Fathers and not ordinary people, but persons with a cause. The trouble and stopping of classes due to demands from various quarters resulting in hindering the running of the schools is quite unfortunate, such disturbance should not be caused in future and appealed to all concerned to abstain from such actions.

The missionaries don`™t take the schools as a profit making centre and the unreasonable troubles which are meted out to them are not reasonable, he said.

He mentioned that Father Frigidian Shenoy Aranhas who founded St Xavier School was a true visionary. The school has been producing brilliant students and helping the people of the nearby areas in holistic development of the child. The school area which measures 19 acres provides a space for spots fields and other physical activities.

A long journey is there for the St Xavier School, more is to be achieved and the 25th year jubilee is just a milestone and more needs to be achieved, Gaikhangam said.

The Headmistress of the school, Reverend Nirmala Beck stated that the school could have progressed much more if the problems arising out of insurgency were not there.

The function was attended and blessed by Reverend Dominic Lumon , Archbishop of Imphal Diocese, Reverend Arul Susaimanickham; Chairman of North East Jesuit Educational Society. MLA of Moirang, Mairenbam Prithiviraj attended as the guest of honor.

As part of the jubilee function, Gaikhangam inaugurated a library block at the school. A mini-weather station constructed inside the school was also inaugurated by MLA Prithiviraj.

IMPHAL, May 9: `Culture, language and literature construct the foundation of identity as it plays the integral role in promoting and developing not only for individual identity but in creating identity to the whole world, noted Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam during the 80th annual meeting of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad at Jawaharlal Nehru Manipuri Dance Academy (JNMDA) here today.

Speaking as chief guest, Gaikhangam maintained that individual success cannot be counted as development but it can be called only when there is all round development for the entire population of the state.

Highlighting the importance of books, he asserted that books have the power to change the perspective of the individual through its message and it also transform the society in the right way.

Taking an inspirational example of Francis Bacon quote `Reading makes a full man, conference a ready man and writing makes an exact man` he further explained that reading leads to a fuller and well informed individual, conference makes one witty and a good speaker and lastly writing makes precision, sound judgment and exactness on the part of writing.

Gaikhangam also lauded the senior members and scholars who have dedicated and work with enthusiasm in bringing up the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad as it plays the key role in creating an identity of the state.

The Dy CM also assured the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad in apprising their grievances and demands to the Chief Minister.

Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro who was present at the occasion as guest of honour stated that it is not the time to give just lecture but time for all the Manipuris to start acting and preserve the rich culture, language and literature of the state.

He also assured from the government side to extend all possible helps for the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad in developing and promoting and also in trying to fulfil its demands.

Today`™s function was also attended by Prof Thoidingjam Tombi Singh, president of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad as the president.
