IMPHAL, Dec 5: The Thadou Students`™ Association (TSA), Chandel District strongly objected the statement of the Naga Peoples Front (NPF), Chandel Divisional Unit published in local dailies on December 4 regarding the site for construction of 2500 MT FCI Godown.

In a press statement signed by Thangboi Mate, secretary Information and Publicity of TSA Chandel, the student body said that the concerned authority has approved the site for construction of 5000 Matric Tonnes FCI Godown at Molnoi Village, Tengnoupal Sub-Division, Chandel District in 2010 which has been reconfirmed by the present CAF & PD minister and his team on April 19, 2013.

Accordingly, the concerned department also recommended for constructing the said 5000 MT FCI Godown at Molnoi Village, it said.

As such, the concerned public are eagerly waiting for construction of the godown at Molnoi since all the basic process like measurement of the site and approach road are completed and waiting for legal process of land the of Acquisition, said the statement.

The student body maintained that the recommended site is feasible for the construction of 5000 MT Godown, from security point of view as it is lying in between 8th MR Molnoi out post and Pallel Police/commando.

And from geographical point of view, Molnoi is centre point for transportation and distribution of food grains to Machi, Tengnoupal, Chakpikarong, Khengjoy and Chandel Sub-Divisional headquarters, it said.

Moreover, if the FCI godown is constructed at Molnoi, it will be benefitted by various communities of the District. However, if the said FCI Godown is constructed at Liwa Khullen it will serve only one community, added the statement.

The statement further said that, a 2500 Matric Tonnes of FCS Godown was already constructed at Liwa Khullen. So, the idea to construct 5000 MT FCI godown again at the same place is a matter of injustice for the villagers of other Sub-Divisions.

While appealing to political parties like NPF Chandel Unit to refrain from such narrow minded intention and politicise the issue, TSA Chandel also appealed the concerned authority to translate all the given assurance in practical regarding the construction 5000 MT FCI Godown at Molnoi as early as possible.

IMPHAL, December 5: As part of the nationwide National Protest Day, 11 different trade unions took out protest rally in Imphal this afternoon to denounce the anti-lanour policies of the NDA led government.

The protest was carried out on the joint call of Indian National Trade Union Congress, INTUC, All India Trade Union Congress, AITUC, Centre of Indian Trade Union, CITU, BMS, HMS, All India United Trade Union Centre, AIUTUC, AICCTU, TUCC, UTUC, SEWA, LFT, Association and Federation-AITUC.

A Sin not to Try

Sometimes the stark reality confronts one and we are left to suffer in its wake, the writings on the wall which we perceive to be for the other person can suddenly jump out and bite. A painful reality when the fabric of the comfort cocoon tears. It is open that most of the people in power indulges in their whims and fancies just for their own self-serving motives. In their indulgence, many are left crucified despite being innocent and suffer the injustices in the dark corner.

In truth, power does corrupt, but it must take exceptional courage and principles to adhere to truth and to care for your fellow man. In Manipur, there seems to be absolutely no space for the common man. He is laughed at his powerlessness, trampled on because of his truthfulness, spited on because he believes in democracy and in a better society.

Police and politicians are in such close proximity in the state that one cannot do without indulging in whims of the other, that is of course for the mutual favours. Not only the mentioned, but others from different spheres occupying a somewhat `political`™ position may do whatever they want, twist the truth, take the law into their own hands, to make the false appear right, to rampantly rape the commoners of their rights. A sacrificial lamb is the commoner. He bears the brunt of the whip as the system operates in favour of the rich and powerful, the connected people. The wounds on the back of the plebeians is brushed aside by those in the ivory towers as their feeling of being superior tantamount in self- belief that they have the right to do so, to inflict pain and suffering upon others, to crucify our souls, but never the same fate should befall to them. Their comfort cocoon cannot be breached at all cost. It is in their mindset and hearts that they cannot be held accountable but others can be. This fascist mindset had been the trend for the powerful and still they remain the untouchables, a true democracy still remains a distant illusion.

It is known only to those who have suffered the cruelty of the oppressive hands, spent the sleepless nights cringing their teeth but becomes emasculated when it dawns upon them that they are still helpless, to retaliate the oppression and still powerless to fight the oppressors. That feeling of helplessness has been borne by many and continues to do so.

Sad even more of the fact that those who have left their homes and sacrificed their lives to fight this oppression have in one way or the other become more like the oppressors. Those supposed to be fighting for us have also begun to think and act like those whom we detest the most. Here, the common man in the state is left to fend for himself between the devil and the deep blue sea with no respite in sight. To be left with the pain and the injustice perpetrated still must remain in the hearts of so many. To endure injustice is more hard than the physical pain that accompanies it. Maybe with the passage of time, the Gandhian thought of turning the other cheek may be a soothing balm for self reconciliation, sometimes reflection on a song or a painting may bring an emancipation from the bitterness. The adage of error and forgiveness being divine holds much water. However, for truth, equality and justice, it is felt that one should not conform to tyranny in whatever form they appear, and for each of us is the duty to challenge that, and in our own possible ways and means. As someone said, it is acceptable to fail but a sin not to try.

By: Paonam Thoibi

`With right guidance and knowledge the road to choosing the right career can also be paved`

Q: Madam, my son is just 12 years and he is doing very well in a private school here in Imphal. As a parent, I have been always worried if I would not be able to know what he likes and where his passion lies. He seems to like many things and I may be exaggerating but I believe he will be able to do anything. Now my concern is that even a parent who is doing quite well in a government service I don`™t feel quite satisfied with my work and sometimes I feel like I should have taken a totally different path. I don`™t want my son to be trapped like me. What are some of the points I should look out as he grows up and how do I help him in choosing the right career for himself? – Manikchand

Ans: Dear Reader, it is very true that choosing the right career is not as easy. But with right guidance and knowledge the road to choosing the right career can be paved.
Many people think they know the right way to go about picking an occupation, but they often wind up choosing a career that is unsatisfying and gets stressed out very soon. A career/ guidance counselor or expert can provide the much needed guidance and facilitate in the decision making but it is difficult to rely totally on.
Choosing a career demands a full involvement and enough time. It involves understanding oneself as one makes an informed decision towards his/ her goal. One needs to take into account his/her interests, values, and skills when choosing a career. Affordability is often an ignored area but this should also be taken into account. Just because an occupation looks and sound good, it doesn`t mean that occupation is right for you. Everyone is different and what works for one person won`t necessarily work for another, even if that other person is someone with whom you have a lot in common. And you know how money doesn`t necessarily lead to job satisfaction. For many people enjoying what they do at work is much more important. It is important that they don`™t feel stuck at their job. Try talking to your son to know more about his likes/dislikes dreams and desires. Make him read about, talk to and be inspired by his role models. Tell him success stories as well as ideas which have been sparked from major failures of individuals.
Lastly, you should inform your son that any point of time he is unsatisfied in his career, for any reason, he can always change it and should not be held back or make any fuss about it. His skills will never go waste and instead it will always help him in one way or the other. Give him all the encouragement and support which he needs the most.
I believe these tips would be of some help for your son as he grows up and strive towards his endeavors. Best of luck to him and give my wishes.

Q: Mam, what disturbs me the most is the prevailing system of our rotten society and corrupted establishment institution of our states. In such dilapidated state could the younger generation be saved from the sidetracked, corrupted minds and perception which they inherited from the older successive generation? What if a right thinking mind wanted to serve the state with utmost sincerity by streamlining himself or herself from the people whom he associate with fallout minded by justifying the system as “normal” and deeming the honest one as “fool”? The irony is that, is it possible to get some sense of dignity among the wolves or to be submissive oneself to the larger interest which is against the principle of the system in which they justified it as “normal?” By just oneself honesty couldn`t change the perception of the people. So, is there anything to overcome this nightmare or is it adapt` is the only possible word to survive in this failure institution? I kind of lost my best perspective. Can you give me a better idea? -Singsonsonlal

Ans: Dear Reader, I am glad that you are addressing your worry here. The issues raised by you which revolves around the crumbling down of our social structure and its components of course does affect the psychological make-up of an individual, and also the community at large. The younger generation who are being brought up to form opinions and perspectives are at a risky position in this society which according to you has lost its essence of normalcy and is rotten now. Well, to put it in another way, you have highlighted an anxiety which is being experienced by a lot of people now, especially the youths who have now learnt how things have been till now and how it can be transformed into; but then again hesitant , taken aback and often gives up. This is a social dilemma and would need a holistic intervention at different levels.
As a psychologist I may want to suggest you to perform your best in your daily activities and engage in a healthy dialogue with your friends to understand the kind of different perspectives your friends must be having, which I hope must not be as negative or pessimistic as we are quick to assume. Who knows you may come across friends who will encourage you with positivity and enthusiasm. It will be helpful if you can attend counseling sessions in group or individually to address your existential concerns. This does not mean that something is wrong with you but rather is an encouragement that it can provide to clear your doubts and have you form your opinion and perspectives.Readers are requested to send in their queries at mindmifp@gmail.com

IMPHAL, December 5: The renovation work of Khuman Lampak Stadium undertaken with a proposed fund of Rs 100 crores under the 13th Finance Commission has raised several questions.

Highly placed sources revealed that the Commission had already sanctioned Rs 50 crores in two phases for repairing works of the main stadium. However, there is no remarkable construction work taken up in the stadium, sources said.

Further the sources said that the redevelopment works include up-gradation of the sitting capacity of the main stadium from 25 thousand to 60 thousand, up-gradation of the hockey field Astroturf; replacement of goal post by international standard fibres and up-gradation of boxing arenas along with the seats etc.

Sources continued that, the hockey stadium has been locked down since about a year ago. On Inquiry, the authority concerned claimed that the closure is due to repairing work taking place inside the stadium, sources said.

But according to experts, replacement work of Astroturf of the ground does not take even a month, they added.

Sources also pointed out that recently, some contractors had replaced the Astroturf of the hockey ground with sub-standard materials. The goal post has been replaced with simple iron bars, they claimed.

They added that the redevelopment and repairing work has been assigned to the contractors of Manipur Development Society, MDS, which has little technical knowledge of sports infrastructures.

Alongside, sources further claimed that the Youth Affairs and Sports Department is neglecting the talented players of Manipur. They pointed out that hockey coaches are conducting practices on the roads as the stadium is closed. Players are facing hard time to negotiate with the restrictions placed in the name of security arrangement inside the stadium premises, added the sources.

The Khuman Lampak sports complex is primarily meant for players and not for the YAS officials, they said.
