IMPHAL May 19: According to an official notification by the deputy director, Tourism, government of Manipur has stated that applications are invited from domiciled candidates of Manipur for admission to the 1st year of three years Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) programme in Hospitality and Hotel Administration during the Academic year 2011-2012 at the Institute of Hotel Management, Guwahati and Shillong.

The notification further added that the applicants should have passed 10+2 stage or equivalent examination in any stream with English as a compulsory subject and atleast 50% marks in aggregate and with 5% relaxation for SC/ST candidates.

The candidates should not be more than 22years of age as on 1st july, 2011 relaxable upto 25 years for SC/ST candidates. The Applications should be submitted to the Deputy Director (Tourism), Manipur in plain paper enclosing (i) bio data, (ii) attested copies of 10 pass certificates (iii) mark sheets of (10+2) standard and (iv) 2 copies of attested pass port size photographs of the candidate on or before 10/6/2011. Total number of candidates to be nominated from Manipur is 13 (thirteen).

IMPHAL, May 21: A BRTF truck driver was electrocuted today along the NH-53 near Kaiphundai at about 10: am in the morning.
The victim is identified as one Md. Sarimul-Islam Laskar, 25, s/o Md. Alliuddin Laskar of Sona Bharighat, Silchar Assam.
Sources said the driver was electrocuted when his truck accidentally got hooked to a High Voltage Transmission wire suspended loosely above the highway near Kaiphundai, Tamenglong district.

IMPHAL, May 26: According to a notice sent out by the Manipur University, prescribed form and prospectus with detailed information on four-year integrated course in bachelor of physical education will be available at the cash counter of the University from May 23, 2011 on payment of Rs200. The counter remains open till 1.30pm on all working days and the form can also be avail by sending a Bank draft drawn in favour of the Registrar, Manipur University, payable at the SBI, MU Campus Branch, Canchipur, Imphal-72598003 along with a self addressed envelope of 28x15cm with postal stamp worth Rs20.

Applications forms are also available on Manipur University website (www.manipuruniv.ac.in). In such cases the applicant has to enclose in the application a bank draft of Rs200 in favour of the Registrar, Manipur University payable at the SBI,MU Branch (Code No-5320). Applications complete in all respects will be received by the concerned Department of the University up to June 6,2011 during office hours on all working days. The entrance test will take place from June14 to June 17, it added.

IMPHAL May 27: Separate road mishaps have claimed the lives of four persons including a woman, while three are left with serious injuries since yesterday in the state.

The first accident occurred along the Imphal Jiribam road near Moidangpok at around 10.45 pm yesterday when a truck (MN01/6163) collided with a tree near the roadside. The driver Konjengbam Kumar Meitei, 27, s/o K Mohan of Kadompokpi Mayai Leikai was rushed to RIMS hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

In another incident the owner of a truck died instantly at the spot when his truck carrying concrete pipes skidded and fell into a ravine at Lambui along the Imphal Ukhrul road. The victim has been identified as Laishram Jugol,72, of Lamdeng Khunou. The accident which happened today at around 11 am left three others with serious injuries other than the owner who died at the spot.

In yet another accident at an interior part of Senapati district, two persons were left dead when the tourist Bolero jeep they were traveling in fell into a road culvert. The victims has been identified as K S Robert, 33,of Ukhrul, driver of the bolero and a tourist from Delhi identified as Kabita Kumar,45,w/o Krishna Kumar of Delhi.

IMPHAL, May 30: An official statement issued by the army has stated that troops of 4/8 Gorkha Rifles of Logtak Brigade under the Red Shield division along with a team of Bishnupur Police commandos has apprehended one over ground worker of the proscribed PLA from Bishnupur Bazar today.
The individual has been identified as Ngangom Tomba Singh, 46, s/o Ibotombi Singh a resident of Yumnam Khunau, District Bishnupur.
The release said that he was involved in collecting extortion money from the villages of Bishnupur district and transferring funds to one s/s second lieutenant Oinam Diren (s/s district commander of Bishnupur district), who was earlier apprehended by the Imphal (West) Police Commandos on May 26, 2011.
He has been handed over to the Bishnupur Police Station, it further added.

IMPHAL June 2: The Field exhibition Office, Directorate of Advertising and Visual publicity, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, Imphal is organizing a five days photo exhibition on the theme `Development Initiatives in North East` at community/composite hall Kakching Bazar, Thoubal district from June 7 to 11, said a press release by Field Exhibition Officer of DAVP, Imphal.

The release added that the aims of the exhibition are to disseminate information about the pace of various developmental projects undertaken by the government of India in the whole of Northeastern region including Sikkim.

All together, about 130 photographs depicting the life, culture and development projects from the eight states will be displayed during the exhibition, the release further added. The field exhibition officer, DAV, Imphal in the release appealed to one and all from all walks of life to witness the photo exhibition so as to have better understanding of various developmental schemes taken up by the government of India.

IMPHAL, June 17: Assistant Engineer of PHED, Chandel notifies the general public that the Khumji Lok at Chandel district has been badly flooded due to heavy rainfall in the area since June 10. 

Large numbers of pipe support, anchor blocks have also been damaged thus affecting the normal supply of raw water to the main pipe and to the general public.

Repair works are going on which may be completed after about two weeks. Until the repair works are completed normal supply of water cannot be resumed. All are appealed to bear the hardship caused by the flood.

IMPHAL, June 20: At least three militant cadres of different groups operating in the state were claimed to have been arrested by the 29 Assam Rifles according to a statement issued by the PRO IGAR (S).

The statement said that discovering the movement of militant cadres in the general area of Chamol road of Chandel district, the 29 AR troops launched a counter insurgency operation in the area and apprehended one KCP (Noyon) and two MNRF cadres on June 19.

The apprehended militants were identified as one Thongam Ngongo alias Chinglakpa Singh, 22, s/o Thongam Santa Singh of Suganu Turel Wangma, Bishenpur a cadre of KCP (Noyon), Baringarn, 37, s/o Wung Jui of Lamphu, Litan Ukhrul, a cadre of MNRF and KS Hillary, 24, s/o KS Samson of Shingkap, Litan Ukhrul, a cadre of MNRF.

Two mobile phones, one agreement letter given by s/s lt. col Krity Meitei alias Ibomcha of KCP and Rs 2,280 was recovered from them and they have been handed over to the police along with the recovered items, it said.

IMPHAL, June 23: A two member official team of the ministry of textile, government of India led by RN Choubey, additional development commissioner handloom and Dr. Md Nazimuddin asst. commissioner handloom has arrived in the state capital this afternoon to assess the schemes undertaken in the state under direct funding from the ministry of textile, government of India.

According to an official source the visiting team will conduct a field inspection tomorrow of the Handloom Cluster at Hekrujam village under Konthoujam assembly constituency and at Sekta Handloom Cluster in Imphal East district which are maintained under direct funding from the union textile ministry.

The source further mentioned that, the visiting officials will have a meeting with the state commerce and industry minister Y Irobot and other concern officials of the department tomorrow afternoon at Hotel Classic.

The minister will discuss various issues on the development of state handloom and handicraft as well as development of different units of the industrial sectors in the state with the visiting team during the meet, the official sources added.

IMPHAL June 27: In regard to the death of one Tumtin Suosang Koireng,23, s/o late Utonglok on June 24, the JAC constituted in the regard submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister today.

It states that the involved culprits should be booked and punished and a compensation of Rs 5 lacs should be given to the family of the deceased by the government.Further, to appoint a family member to a suitable job and to take up precautionary measures to prevent unwanted tension between the different communities residing around Utonglok and Dolaithabi area due to the death of Tumtin Suosang. IMPHAL, July 2(Newmai News Network): The All Manipur Tribal Union (AMTU) has strongly condemned reported manhandled a man mistaking him to be the general secretary of its organization (COPTAM) who identified themselves as members of a particular social organisation at North AOC in Imphal on June 28.

AMTU demanded from the state government to look into the matter urgently and book the culprits. It also appealed all the concerned authorities and civil society organisations not to engage in notorious activities that may disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the state.

AMTU then expressed resentment over an incident where a traffic police personnel directed abusive langauge aganst its president D.P Panmei who is also a former minister. The incident occurred at M.G Avenue on Saturday, according to AMTU.

IMPHAL, July 8: As a part of anti malaria month, the 69 battalion CRPF organized a seminar/awareness programme today at its head quarter Mantripukhri, Imphal.

An official statement of the CRPF stated that resource personnel from the state Malaria department, government of Manipur, Dr. A. Ibochouba state Malaria officer and other resource personnel enlighten the gathering regarding causes of Malaria and vector bore diseases and its precautionary measures.

A demonstration has also been displayed to make the civilian troops besides distributing pamphlets and screening of film.
