IMPHAL, April 21: A hoax bomb situation unfolded a high drama at the New Secretariat building at Babupara this noon after employees found a suspicious looking packet wrapped in old newspapers and placed inside a black polythene in a waste basket on the second floor of the building.

Police officials including bomb disposal squad rushed in to pick up the explosive material, however the explosive turned out to be nine empty bottles of D-Cof cough syrups wrapped in newspapers.

The room offices personal staffs of the Director Settlement and land records. The suspicious looking packet was reported by an employee of the department.

The bomb hoax also led to the suspension of all activities at the office complex for sometime, with CRPF personnel stationed at the office complex sealing off the entire complex.

Security personnel later conducted a room to room search of the entire office building using sniffer dogs. Normal proceedings continued only after the security personnel declared the office clean.

The official complex being in the midst of a high security area housing the Chief Minister’s bungalow, Imphal Police, Old Secretariat among others, several high police officials including the Addl DGP V Zathang, addl SP, SP in-charge IW also arrived at the spot to take stock of the situation.
