Dimapur, April 23 NNN: The NSCN-IM has alerted the Nagas today that they should get prepared for any eventuality as the stand off between the Naga outfit and the Assam Rifles has dragged on to the fifth day today. The NSCN-IM also lambasted the Naga People’s Front (NPF) led government of Nagaland for not rising up to the occasion. The Isak-Muivah group also cautions other underground groups that once they start engaging the political dialogues with New Delhi, those outfits will certainly experience the same insincerity and false diplomacy of the Government of India as the NSCN-IM is facing today.
Meanwhile, there was a high level meeting consisting of the NSCN-IM, the Cease Fire Monitoring Group (CFMG) of the government of India and other concerned authorities with regard to the current impasse between the Naga outfit and the Assam Rifles.
However, the detailed information on the outcome of meeting was not known.
Sources informed Newmai News Network that hectic emergency meetings are also underway in New Delhi involving Thuigaleng Muivah, Isak Swu and representatives of the Government of India since yesterday in this connection.
An official source said regarding the the meeting in Dimapur, it was participated by fire-brand NSCN-IM leader V.S Atem, Cease Fire Monitoring Group chairman Major General (retd) N George and other leaders at Police Guest house, Chumukedima in the outskirt of Dimapur.
Meanwhile, the NSCN-IM said today that whatever has been and will be said or written about the April 19 incident at Hebron, the Council Headquarters of the outfit , it was actually an outrageous trespass of the notorious Assam Rifles to the NSCN-IM camp. “No amount of excuses or explanations by the Assam Rifles and other Indian government agencies can justify or cover the crime. It was a flagrant violation of cease-fire ground rules and the spirit of the widely known Cease-fire agreement between the NSCN and the government of India. It was a planned and deliberate act of provocation,” it alleged.
While expressing its unhappiness the way the Neiphiu Rio government in Nagaland state is behaving, the NSCN-IM said as a powerful unit in the India federation, and the government of Nagaland which holds the law and order subject is maintaining death silence. “The NPF Government in Nagaland boasts of claiming as a facilitator in the peace process between the NSCN and the government of India but during such crisis and uncertainty what the Nagaland State government is doing?,” the NSCN-IM asks today, while adding, “The NSCN is a political group only. But the dangerous consequences is threatening the entire population of the Nagas. So that Naga people may ask the reasons why the State Government of Nagaland does not raise a voice in such a critical situation? If any undesirable situation is created from today’s crisis, the Government of Nagaland state should be squarely blamed by the Nagas”.
The outfit then maintains that more than 95% Nagas desire freedom from want and oppressions. They have witnessed how the government of India and its leaders are acting in political dialogue and the April 19 incident at Hebron is a good lesson for all the Nagas, it added. The other factions are talking about political dialogue with India, but they will certainly experience the same insincerity and false diplomacy from the government of India, the NSCN-IM cautions. “The said incident should be an eye opener for all sections of the Naga people. The system of dictatorship and authoritarianism, oppression and suppression is speedily losing ground from the face of the world. The Nagas are united in our desire for freedom and dignity of life. Therefore, let us again unite as before and fight with whatever is available at our command. Let us not loss heart but be strengthen with difficult situations we are facing now.
“From today’s incident Naga people have learned the real intention of India and so we should get prepared for any eventuality,” the NSCN-IM alerted.

Imphal, Apr 23: Apropos the news item “AR NSCN Stand off” published in this paper it was clarified that based on specific information, a column of 19 Assam Rifles alongwith Police representatives of Police Station, Khonsa launched an operation in the jungles near Hollam Village in Tirap District on 15 April 2012. At approximately 06:45 PM, the column apprehended one militant, later identified as SS Capt Yormi Horam Tangkhul of NSCN (IM), alongwith one muzzle loaded rifle (Baruah Rifle), an extortion note of NSCN (IM) and two pairs of combat uniform. SS Capt Yormi Horam Tangkhul was found to be in a sick state and was, therefore, immediately taken to District Hospital, Khonsa alongwith the local Police representatives where the cadre was handed over in fit physical condition after proper medical examination to SHO, Khonsa Police Station and District Hospital, Khonsa. It is learnt that the NSCN (IM) cadre, SS Capt Yormi Horam Tangkhul subsequently expired on 20 April 2012 in the hospital.
Proper laid down procedures and norms were followed during the conduct of the operation and further handing over of the apprehended NSCN (IM) cadre to the police. There have been no Human Rights violations by the Assam Rifles troops in the entire episode. The news paper report of SS Capt Yormi Horam succumbing due to torture by 19 Assam Rifles is utterly false and malicious, aimed at tarnishing the image of Assam Rifles.

Imphal, Apr 23: Governor Gurbhachan Jagat said, “Today we are all here to celebrate the Khongjom Day as a mark of respect to those brave sons of Manipur who made supreme sacrifices for the cause of their motherland in the legendary battle of Khongjom in 1 891. Khongjom Day once again rejuvenates our memory about the great patriotism and indomitable courage displayed by Paona Brajabashi and others who laid down their lives in the fight against the British, the then mightiest imperialist power.
We are all aware from the pages of history that British came to India as traders in the name of East India Company. This took U-turn after the Battle of Plassey in 1757 in which the forces of East India Company defeated Siraj-Ud-Daula, the Nawab of Bengal. That signaled the arrival of British as rulers. Then the British taking advantage of the disunity and differences prevailing among the kings and princes of the then small kingdoms and principalities annexed them one after another thereby spreading and consolidating their empire. This was true in the case of Manipur also which led to Anglo-Manipur War of 1 891 . The battle of Khongjom was the bloodiest and the decisive battle of the Anglo-Manipur War after which the British Rule was established in Manipur.
Thus, we have learnt from history that disunity and differences not only weaken a nation but also are the root cause for the foreign intervention. While celebrating the Day, we need to remember this lesson and should renew our pledge to stand unitedly for our strength lies in our unity. It is that Unity which gave us our Independence. It is that Unity that gives us our strength as a nation.
Today, we are all citizens of free India. Much has changed. Now, we have challenges which are truly new. Challenges for which there are no ready made answers. It is unfortunate to mention here that Manipur has been passing through a difficult phase. The long period of turmoil has impacted the lives of its citizens.
Problems of insurgency and its ramifications such as abduction for ransom, extortion and killing continue while calling of frequent bandhs and blockades are taken for granted by various organizations.
On the other hand, it is disheartening to say that in a State which is famous for its Ima Keithel, Nupilal and Meira Paibis the crime against women is on the rise. These dark forces have been not only significantly hampering the pace of development and progress both in social and economic spheres of the State but also consuming the public money and energy of the Government. It is time for us to introspect and commit ourselves to bring the State among the comity of developed and peaceful States of the country.
Chief Minister O. Ibobi who also attended the function, said that the freedom we are enjoying today is not a gift from the British, but the gift of the brave sons of the land who sacrificed their lives for the sake of their motherland. He urged the people to stand united whenever there is threat to the territorial integrity of Manipur and to be ready to fight for its protection.
He appealed to the people of Manipur to maintain peace in the state, and understand that there can be no development without peace. The chief minister also informed the gathering that the state government is planning to made Khongjom an eco-tourism spot, under a mega project which will cost around 20 crore.
Thousands of people from different parts of the state turned up at Khongjom War Memorial to pay their respect to the brave sons of Manipur who gave their lives for the sake of their motherland at the battle of Khongjom.
