IMPHAL, Oct 6 NNN: A cadre of Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) was shot dead by another cadre of the outfit yesterday at Tousemjang village in Khoupum area, Tamenglong district. Some domestic animals have also been killed by the two ZUF cadres who were in the intoxicated state before a cadre turned his barrel on his colleague. Speculsations were also doing the round that two ZUF cadres who were under alcoholic influence attempted to rape some young girls at Tousemjang village.
Meanwhile, clearing the air of confusion created by speculations, ZUF information secretary A Dangmei informed NNN tonight that one cadre of ZUF’s armed wing Zeliangrong Tigers Force (ZTF) identified as one Dibonpou Kamei, a ‘lance corporal’ hailed from Ramgaijeng of Cachar (Assam) was shot dead by another ZTF cadre one Ladjanbung Malangmei (pvt), s/o Makulung of Happy Colony of Noney. Terming the two cadres as ‘defectors, ‘ A Dangmei chronicled the sequence leading to the incident. According to the ZUF leader, Dibonpou and Ladjanlung had defected from the outfit with their service weapons and they were on a happy-triggering killing dosmestic animals as they moved around in Tousemjang village and its vicinity.

IMPHAL, Oct 6 NNN: The public resolution on the August 17 killing of ZSUM secretary Chunthuigai Kamei by NSCN-K stands ineffective from October 3 after the latter had admitted its ‘mistake’. The matter was also settled in accordance with the Zeliangrong custom and tradition. A joint meeting between the Zeliangrong civil organizations and NSCN-K was held on October 3, at Longmai (Noney). The meeting was held in connection with the killing of Mr. Chunthuigai kamei, State Secretary, ZSUM on August 17 at Luangkao village by the NSCN -K cadres of Zeliangrong Region. The NSCN-K was represented by Mr. David Panmei, Tatar (the outfit’s Member of Parliament), Mr. R. Aduan, chairman, Zeliangrong Region of NSCN-K along with their other responsible cadres and civil organizations were represented by the president, All Zeliangrong Students Union (AZSU-AMN), president, ZYF (AMN), Chairman, Zeliangrong Baudi Manipur, Chairman, ZSUM, president, Rongmei Naga Council, speaker of Inpui Students’ Union, convenor of ZSU Longmai Area, secretary of the Village Authority Council Longmai Area, Chairman, Longmai Bazar Board and other members and elders of different villages. During the meeting both parties have jointly signed an understanding that no such incident occurs in the future; no public leaders, civil organistions leader, civilians should be tortured or harassed etc.; any public leader, civil organisations leader, civilian committed activities against the NSCN-K should produce sufficient evidence of activities committed and hand over the persons to their respective organization and to the village authority where the persons belong to. According to ZYF president Titua Kamei, AZSU chief Pamei Tingenlung, ZSUM chairman D Stephen Zeme and ZB(M) chairman Thomas Kamei, after the NSCN-K of Zeliangrong Region had admitted their mistake and responsibility for the killing the matter was settled in accordance with the Zeliangrong customary and tradition therefore, the public resolutions adopted earlier in connection with the killing of Mr Chuithuigai Kamei, State Secretary, ZSUM stands ineffective.

IMPHAL, Oct 6: Irked by the apathetic attitude of the state Government of Manipur, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) seeking whereabouts of Irungbam Irabanta, who has remained untraced since last May, has on Saturday announced a 48-hour along Imphal-Ukhrul road to be begun midnight of October 9.
Another indefinite economic blockade along Imphal-Ukhrul road will be imposed from October 11, the day the proposed general strike ends if the Government fails to take note of the voice of the JAC again this time, Amakcham Radhamani, convenor of the JAC formed against the disappearance of Irabanta told journalists at the Manipur Press Club here.
The JAC convenor recounted several memoranda regarding the missing of Irabanta have been put forward to the Chief Minister, Home Minister and the Governor pleading them to secure his release from the captivity of NSCN-IM on many ocassions.
The uptight over the missing of Irabanta has witnessed in the state for the last five months. The JAC in collaboration with different NGOs including meira paibis in the state had also staged various agitations to put pressure on the Government to facilitate his release from the custody of the rebel NSCN-IM.
The JAC also appealed to the state Government to secure his release while condemning it for allegedly keeping tight-lipped over the issue. It also sought support and cooperation from local clubs, meira paibis in particular and the public in general to enforce the strike.
Many members from various civil societies, including All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation (AMUCO), Poirei Leimarol Apunba Meira Paibi Lup and other civil bodies had protested against the abduction of Irabanta. Irungbam Irabanta, 38, son of late I Kerani Meitei of Nongdam Maning Leikai under Lamlai Police Station, Imphal East has gone missing since May 27 after he left home along with one Winner Tangkhul, hailing from Ukhrul’s Harpham village to have negotiation with NSCN-IM functionaries over the supply work of Maphou Dam.
It had been confirmed that Irabanta was at the region office of the rebel NSCN-IM on the morning of May 28 based on an SMS received by his family. On May 30, brother and brother-in-law of Irabanta, namely I Devata and S Guna went to Ukhrul pursuing his way but Winner’s wife had told them that her husband was staying at New Salem and not at home. Then they were desperate and returned home.
After five days, some family members, including Irabanta’s wife, Modhubala had visited Ukhrul but bore no fruit, a memorandum submitted earlier to Chief Minister O Ibobi by the JAC had mentioned. The family also pleaded with some Tangkhul civil organizations to help trace Irabanta. They had also approached to the Region Office of NSCN-IM and brought up the matter before the outfit’s Central Administrative Officer (CAO) named Francis but this time also the effort was came out to be fruitless.
