The 2nd Chengjapao Doungel Kuki Raja Foundation (CDKRaF) Day was observed on 9th October, 2012 at Haijang village in Singngat sub-division, Churachandpur.
Speaking at the occasion, NYK Youth Co-ordinator, CCPur and CDKRaF founder Shri Henkholun Doungel asserted that Chengjapao Doungel was an Indian freedom fighter and the title ‘Kuki Raja’ is given to him by the British for his being leader of the Kukis and the Kuki Rebellion 1917-1919. He also pointed out the good relationship Kukis had with Meitei kings such as Maharaj Gambhir Singh and Chandrakirti Singh and emphasised the importance of peaceful co-existence for all round development in the area.
About 300 villagers of the area participated in the Foundation Day Observation including village authority members and churches leaders.
It may be mentioned that in memory of Kuki Raja Chengjapao Doungel, his portraits with the inscription “King of Kukis” are displayed at the Queen Victoria Memorial Hall and Calcutta Museum, Kolkata which were established by the erstwhile British government. The same portraits are also kept at British Museum in London.
