Imphal, Dec 11: The former news editor of AIR, Imphal Seram mangi passed away at JNIMS hospital this morning around 7.40 a.m.
He was 67. He was chairman of media dept. of MPCC, He became the ANE, AIR from 1982 to 2001, he was also news reader from 1968 to 1982. He became the teacher of Meitei Mayek High School, Praja high school, Lamshang in 1965 and 66.
In the national games held in 1999 he was the chief media controller.
He was the founder president of All Manipur sports journalist assn. and founder of All Manipur music assn. Besides, he was the member of writer forum and sangeet mandal, general secy of AMSU from 1966 to 67, founder general secy of SEYO 1969.
The officials and staffs of All India Radio Imphal observed a two minutes silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
Chief Minister O Ibobi said in a condolence message that , “I am deeply grieved to learn about the sad demise of S. Mangi Singh, IIS at his residence . Mangi had a significant record of service in the field of journalism. He also served as Chairman in the Media Department of the Congress party . He earned the respect and admiration of the people for his dedication and sense of public service. In his death, the State has lost a talented journalist the CM said. The media fraternity in Manipur also condoled his death.
AMWJU condoled the death of Seram Mangi Singh. It was stated that Seram Mangi was a pioneer in the field of journalism and was also a social worker.
He served as Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee , media cell chairman and contested in Thongju Assembly constituency as a Congress candidate.
