Strike supporters fighting with police during the ongoing stir at Imphal

Imphal, Dec 24 : Even as the Film Forum Manipur and the Manipur Shumang Leela Council along with civil societies suspended the indefinite agitation till midnight of December 26 in view of the Christmas festival protest continued today for the third day.
State police department has registered an FIR No. 14(12) 2102 under Chandel PS u/s 307/426/511/400 IPC read with session 25 (I-C) Arms Act has been registered at police station against RT Livingstone Anal (40) yrs s/o late RT Mohring @ Mohendro of Japhou Bazar Chandel.
Statement released by the joint secretary (home) said the police has reported that numerous efforts have been made to cause his arrest, however, he has fled from his residence and hided.
Joint Secretary Home, Devesh Deval issued a statement saying that he was declared “Wanted” and a cash reward of Rs. 5 lakhs will be for arrest and providing information leading to his arrest.
District administration of both Imphal East and Imphal West clamped curfew from 11 am today. But protestors defying the imposition of curfew came out in streets and burn tyres. Manipur police personnel fires many rounds of tear gas cells, rubber bullets and even armed as to disperse the agitating crowds in different places.
Bandh supporters bunt dawn a Honda Activa at Tharoijam Awang Leikai under Patsoi PS this morning around 11 a.m.
The riders of the Activa however left the area after leaving behind the vehicle.
The Activa which was following a Maruti 800 was burnt dawn and the vehicle was totally damaged and the driver of the car drove away from the area.
The bandh supporters burnt down the effigy of self styled Lt Col. Livingstone of NSCN(I/M) at Khurai. They also shouted slogans like ‘he should be arrested in no time and punish the culprits.
Bandh supporters also blocked vehicles coming from Dimapur at Sekmai and damaged the vehicle.
Large number of crowds arrived to burn down the residence of Laimayum Surjakanta near Khuyathong Pukhri Achouba today however Manipur Police Controlled the situation but the angry crowd damaged doors and windows of the house.
L. Surjakanta is the chairman of Film Forum Manipur.
The anger of the people of Manipur was intensified after L. Surjakanta announced the relaxation of bandh from the midnight of December 24 to the midnight of December 26 in the news of AIR Imphal last night.
This morning around 8.20 a.m. people protesting the news and killing of pressman Th. Dwijamani thronged the residence of Surjakanta and tried to burn dawn the house however Police fired various tear gas shells and dispersed the mob.
This afternoon about 3000 persons took out a rally in different areas of Thangmeiband. The rallyists expressed unhappiness over the killing of Th. Dwijamani while performing his duties and they also tried to block the road. Police picked up six persons in this connection.
The situation at Thangmeiband, kangjabi Leirak was totally tense.
Bandh supporters damaged a culvert connecting Imphal-Ukhrul road at Telou Chana Road today.
The people as usual opened their shops, people were seen roaming in the market however people from Thangmeiband, Khurai threatened to close down the shops. . The protesters burnt dawn tyres, woods on the road. As the situation worsened, the district magistrates of Imphal east, West announced curfew from 11 a.m. of December to six a.m. of December 25.
Meanwhile state govt. has arranged vehicles to escort those who like to enjoy x-mas in the hills. Semi-low floor buses were seen in front of Imphal PS to escort them.
Acting against the decision to call off the bandh protestors throng the residence of Film Forum President L. Surjakanta Sharma at Khoyathong and pelted stones. The gate and window panes were damaged in the action which took place at around 11.00 am.
Agitators in large numbers at Thangmeiband area blocked the Thangmeiband road and proceeded towards Khoyathong traffic point and blocked traffic movement before the imposition of curfew. However, Manipur police intervene and the protestors were moved towards Thangmeiband but the protestors retaliated against the police at Thangmeiband Lourung Purel leikai and pelted stones along with Sling shoot towards Manipur police team who were firing tear gas cells and rubbers bullets.
In support of the agitation protest were carried out at various places that includes Kakwa, Heirangoithong, Keishamthong,
Singjamei, Nagamapal, Kwakeithek, Lilong Kakching, Tera barzar areas etc, and in Bishnupur district in supported of the protest against the molested actress by NSCN (IM) as well the killing of media person Thangjam Dwijamani @ Nanao.
However, the decease body of the Thangjam Dwijamani @ Nanao remained at RIMS morgue.
