IMPHAL, February 16: The two accused in the rape case of a student of Tamphasana Girls’ Higher Secondary School, an Imphal East commando driver called  William and Manipur Film actor Tarun were produced before the Imphal West Chief Judicial Magistrate today.

On his way to the court room, co-accused Tarun expressed his desire to expedite the court case and reveal the truth before the public. While coming out of the court room, he said there is a need for the general public to investigate on the girl’s side of the story.

KANGPOKPI, February 16:  The All Tribal Disables Union, Sadar Hills has taken a strong resolution not to endorse the 72 hours hill districts bandh being called by ATDUM starting from midnight of February 17 after its Union executive meeting Kangpokpi today.

Leaders of ATDUSH made the announcement at a press meet today at Kangpokpi.

The leaders said that, they (ATDUSH) did not receive any prior intimation from the ATDUM regarding the said bandh and so they will abstain from it.

“Therefore, we inform all the Sadar Hills general public that the 72-hour bandh called by ATDUM will not be endorsed in the district. The said bandh will not disrupt normal life in the area,” added the Union.

UKHRUL, February 16: The All Ukhrul Mini Secretariat employees staged a cease work sit-in protest today outside the campus of the Ukhrul Mini-Secretariat  from 11:00am till 3:00pm protesting against the incident in which  unidentified miscreants threw an explosive device from outside the DC`s Official bungalow`s gate that took place on February 14. The incident fortunately created no unwanted casualties in the event.

The protestors including the SDOs, SDCs,other DLOs and all the employees of the Ukhrul Mini-Secretariat Office. They  carried placards that read, “we hate violence, please don`t repeat such act”, ” we condemn bomb blast at Ukhrul DC`s Bungalow on 14th Feb. “, “bomb culture must be stopped” amongst others.

The protestors including the SDOs, SDCs and other employees expressed shock and strongly condemned  the incident citing that the DC Ukhrul has been very actively involved in Ukhrul`s welfare development activities by involving his interest. A protestor on ground of anonymity said, “Such uncivilized act creates unwanted situation that can affect the peace loving society in the district.  If there are grounds of discontent over the nature of works being undertaken under the DC, that should be taken up at the office level as the DC is always available  to talk and discuss whatsoever the matter or the problems faced by the people of the district.

IMPHAL, February 16: A Sit in protest was today held at the Matripukhri Keithel by the womenfolk and Meira Paibi of Mantripukhri, Lamlongei Apunba Nupi Chowkhat Lup and Nupi Keithel Lup against the abolition of the Special Intelligence Unit as per a Government order last month  after the SIU seized a huge consignment of drugs from Imphal Tulihal airport on 13 January.   

Speaking to the media person at the sideline of the protest, one meirapaibi demanded the Special intelligence unit to be re instituted at the earliest and booking the drug peddler.

IMPHAL, February 16: The agitations launched by the nine Navodya Vidyalayas of Manipur  in connection with the strike  called by the All India Navodaya Vidyalaya staff Assn. over 21 demands have been suspended following the agreement resulting from the talk between the HRD Minister of state, Governenmet of India and the representatives of the JAC at Shastri Bhavan, New Delhi. The strike being suspended, Navodaya Vidyalaya Staff Association has notified the students of attending school as usual.  During the talk LB Reddy, Jagdish Rai, JK Singh, C Prabhakar Reddy and Smt BJ Misra represented the Central Executive Committee of All India Navodaya Vidyalaya Staff Association and Joint secretary, Joint Secretaty, HRD Nagesh singh,and GS Bothyal ( Commisioner NVS), HRD Minister of state, Governenmet of India discussed the 21-point demands and reached an agreement to revoke the suspension orders of the teaches issued during the strike and to cancel the transfer order. The agreement also includes implementation of 21 demands by HRD within 15 days. The State Executive committee meeting held at DM college campus at 11.30 a.m. has expressed gratitude to all for their support to the strike.

IMPHAL, February 16: According a press release, the 15 Assam Rifles of HQ 9 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) has said that it has installed solar street lights at Sombrai  village. The inauguration was carried out by Col A S Kapoor, SM, Commandant, 15 Assam Rifles amongst a large gathering of villagers  on 16 Feb.  The populace of Sombrai Village have expressed their happiness and gratitude on the inauguration of the much required installation of three solar street lights under “Op Sadbhavana” and applauded the efforts of Assam Rifles in helping the cause of the populace.

In another occasion, 16 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector under HQ IGAR(South) distributed Solar Street Lights under AR MCA Programme in the NE Region to Leishi village on 16 Feb.  The ceremony was attended by GBs, Village Authorities along with the villagers of above villages.

IMPHAL, February 16: The 8th Foundation day of the Film Academy Manipur (FAM) and the 7th RJ Film Vision Special Award Ceremony was held at the Manipur Film Development Corporation auditorium today evening.

In his welcome address, S Momon Singh, President FAM said the academy was established since 1982 and working towards enriching the arts and culture of the Manipur.

A reception ceremony of the 12th All India Drama & Dance Competition, 2012 was also held during the function. Gurumayum Bony received the Best Actor award (Male), Hijam Bala received the Best Actor Award (female), while the Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to Lourembam Pishak Devi.

IMPHAL, Feb 16: As per the direction of Ministry of Labour & Employment, Govt of India Employees Provident Fund Organisation has started the process of collecting the AADHAAR details of employees provident fund subscribers and pensioners in order to implement the Direct Cash Transfer in respect of EPF Scheme, Employees’ Pension Scheme and EDLI Scheme, said a release of Employees Provident Fund Organisation.

EPFO, Regional Office, Guwahati and three Sub-Regional offices in the North-East States have also started the same, it informed.

In respect of new members joining EPF on or after March 1, 2013 submission of AADHAAR numbers shall become mandatory with immediate effect and for the existing EPF members collection of AADHAAR details and seeding thereof in bank accounts has been slated for completion by June 30. The concerned employers should start collecting the AADHAAR details (copy of Aadhaar letter issued by UIDAI or the Enrolment ID if AADHAAR letter is yet to be received) and Bank Account details of their EPF members for submission to concerned EPF offices, it further informed.

Simultaneously the EPF pensioners and beneficiaries including widow/children/orphan/dependent parent/nominee pensioners also should submit their AADHAAR numbers by submitting legible copies of Aadhaar letter issued by UIDAI, photocopies of Pension Payment Order and first page of Bank Passbook containing bank account number and IFSC code either to the concerned EPF offices including Inspectorates and Services Centres or Pension Paying Bank Branch, it added.
