BISHNUPUR, June 9: In condemnation of the fishing practice using dynamo powered electronic device in Loktak Lake during night time, Ningthoukhong Municipal Council, Bishnupur district called a press conference at its office today.

Chairperson of Ningthoukhong Municipal Council RK Bimola; Councillor of Ningthoukhong Municipal Council M Rajen; members of the JAC Against Dynamo; All Loktak Lake Fishermen`™s Union Manipur (ALLAFUM); All Loktak lake Union; Ningthoukhong Youth Welfare Club and representatives of several organizations attended the press conference.

Addressing media persons, RK Bimola said that a complaint was lodged with the Ningthoukhong Municipal Council on June 4 by the JAC urging to restrict the practice of fishing using dynamo powered electronic device in Loktak Lake during night time which has been going on since the last three years.

She further said that such fishing practice will affect the eco-system of the Loktak Lake which is the largest freshwater lake in the entire north east India , famous for the phumdis floating over it.

Expressing concern on the rampant fishing practice using electric current in the lake, she urged the government and Loktak Development Authority to intervene into the matter and ensure that such fishing practice is stopped.
