Home Ministry looks to form 29 Bn Indo-Myanmar border force AR-ITBF to man border

New Delhi, Jan 18 :The Ministry of Home Affairs is considering the creation of a 29-battalion India-Myanmar Border Force from the corps of the Assam Rifles and the Indo-Tibetan Border Force to patrol India’s 1,643-km long mountainous border with Myanmar to curtail drugs and arms smuggling and also crimp the activities of Manipuri and Naga insurgents who take advantage of the porous border.

Boy killed in road mishap

IMPHAL, Jan 18: In a tragic incident, a five-year-old boy was killed while his mother and grandmother sustained injuries when a Tata Tipper truck toppled onto them at Phaipijang Spring Villa, Langol under Lamphel police station today morning at around 7.
The deceased boy has been identified as Thangminlal s/o Henkhogin.
According to a report, a Tata Tipper truck was unloading earth at the residence of Henkhogen Vaiphei when the vehicle lost control and toppled onto them on the left side.
Despite putting best efforts by locals who were present at the site when the incident took place, they failed to extract the boy from the truck.
The deceased’s mother Kimkhohoi suffered injuries on her left hand. She is undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital while his grandmother has been discharged from the hospital.

IMPHAL, Jan 18: All Manipur VDF Welfare Association in a joint meeting attended by VDF welfare associations in different districts has reaffirmed to continue their cease work strike against non-release of remuneration for the month of November and December despite submitting Computerised Personnel Information System (CPIS) form to the concerned Department a few months back.
The meeting unanimously agreed to continue the agitation till the State Government provides a positive response to the demand. It also resolved to launch various forms of intense agitation and boycott inclusion of VDF contingent in the Republic Day parade on January 26.
