IMPHAL, July 11 MNS NNN : The World Population Day was observed on Thursday here at Manipur Film Development Corporation (MFDC), Palace Compound. This year’s edition of the World Population Day was held with the theme “Focus is on Adolescent Pregnancy.”
Health and Family Welfare minister Phungjathang Tonsing, Family Welfare Director Dr O Ibomcha, Health Services Director Dr A Bijoy, senior consultant Dr G Nabakanta attended the function organised by Directorate of Family Welfare Services in collaboration with National Rural Health Mission, Manipur.
Tonsing said the family welfare programmes being taken up by the Government in the country aims to control further explosion of population and this are not done to harm any religious group or community. He said, “To make a happy family, we have to make policy. A good family has great roles to make a good state or a good country.”
Tonsing said “Small Family, Happy Family” is the slogan of the World Population Day 2013 and made a fervent appeal to all the communities to have child with limitation by keeping in mind to make the world a happy place. A public rally participated by hundreds of people was also organised in connection with the World Population Day. It kicked off from the MFDC and marched through New Checkon, Hatta, Wangkhei Angom Leikai and returned to its earlier place where it culminated.
