Bruised, battered and buffetted in the recent election with voters opting for stability, Nationalist Congress Party having been reduced to naught is on the lookout for a way to get the root for survival. The root was just beginning to sprout out but it had been truncated with the mudslinging charges thrown against each other among the party leaders. S. Ibomcha held Radhabinod Koijam former Chief Minister responsible for misappropriation of party fund. No wonder the same charge had been hurled against Ibomcha by Radhabinod. Does not it sound funny? It is amazing political leaders of their stature are locking horns over such petty matter like election expenditure. Perhaps they do not see shumang leela. If they watch shumang leela they will know that there is a powerful dialogue uttered in one of the shumang leelas. “Wa du pangngangda ngangnarabadi dora huranbagasu yaorakkani” if you continue to throw abusive language unnecessarily against each other you may disclose about the petty thieving also. Advani and Sonia Gandhi can pose together in group photograph. They even exchange words whenever they find the occasion to be at the public domain. Will Ibomcha and Radhabinod be able to do that? The degree of accusation and the manner of the fight they take up will make it very difficult for the two leaders to sit together and chat freely just as these great leaders are doing. The image of the NCP in Manipur had been dragged down to such a low level that none takes them seriously. But a political party, which exists to serve people of the state, cannot be run like this. If they cannot keep the house in order how will they be able to look after the need of other people? One prominent thing that is conspicuous by its absence in the running of small parties like the one in the news is discipline. Such news of one leader claiming I am the real President to be countered by another as the genuine president of the same party exposes the system that controls political parties in the greatest democracy of the world. In Karnataka when Yedyurappa could not become president of the state unit of BJP he dared challenge the central leadership of the party with the threat of going out enmasse. He had given time for doing that precisely in December this year. We will see what comes out after the issuance of the threat by the Karnataka strongman. Cowards fight for political posts. It must come with honour. If it is not coming you are worn out in the eyes of the central leadership. Try to regain their confidence. After all politics is game of patience. If you cannot wait nothing wrong with launching a regional party so that you can remain as president till the end of your life. It is time the central leadership of the NCP prevail upon the two leaders now locked horns over the leadership issue and declare in one sentence who is the president of the NCP Manipur unit. As usual central leaders will not intervene immediately. The fight may continue for some time more.

Illegal immigrants swamping Dimapur

DIMAPUR, Oct 4 NNN : The ballooning population of ‘outsiders’ in Nagaland especially in the state commercial hub Dimapur is quite alarming. Civil society organisations in Nagaland are actually concerned about the presence of ‘illegal Bangladeshi immigrants’. However, to detect them, a concrete mechanism is yet to be found. The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) and the Naga Council, Dimapur (NCD) are spending sleepless nights to address this issue in their own respective ways. Several meetings have been convened by both the organisations in this respect.
Speculations have been doing the round for sometime now that large number of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants are flooding into Nagaland through Assam. In the commercial hub Dimapur the population of these immigrants are quite big but officially this fact has not been confirmed. Majority of the labourers in Dimapur are reportedly from Bangladesh. Construction works are carried out by these immigrants but when queried about their origins, these labourers would often say they are from Dhubri district of Assam or from Barak Valley, Silchar or even from Karimganj.
Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) president Kelhouneizo Yhome said since it is a sensitive issue they are dealing it with extra care. The NSF chief disclosed that it has been one month now that the students’ body is collecting ‘census’. “Our federating units are doing the job of collecting census from their respective districts of Nagaland and once it is completed we will chalk out our move to filter the illegal immigrants”, stated Mr Yhome while adding, “We are doing with extra care so that the genuine Indians are not affected nor their sentiment is hurt.” However, it is not clear whether the NSF is taking themselves the census of ‘outsiders’ or collecting the already recorded official data.
Meanwhile, interestingly on Gandhi Jayanti, the Naga Council, Dimapur (NCD) had launched a ‘non-violent campaign aganst illegal Bangladeshi immigrants’ in Dimapur. Quite a sizeable number of people both Nagas and non-Nagas inked their signatories under the slogan, “ I pledge that I shall wholly and steadfastly boycott illegal Bangladeshis immigrants (IBIs) socially and economically. I shall not lease out my premises, including both residential and commercial, to IBIs, as part of my social commitment. I shall boycott all the business establishments of IBIs who now control the economy of our state and instead patronize fellow Nagas and fellow Indians. This pledge is borne out of love for my Naga people.”
“I took this pledge to uphold the truth; the truth that Nagas are in danger of losing their Christian character to an alien religion; the truth that Naga identity is in erosion created by a tidal wave of alien culture; the truth that Nagas can be self-reliant, not depending on aliens for their survival; the truth that the well-being of our future generation and survival of Naga identity depends on us taking a historic and firm stand today”, it reads.
It can be mentioned here that in the month of August, the Naga Hoho had called upon all the states in the North East India region to unite for flushing out illegal Bangladeshi immigrants from the region. The Naga Hoho had also said earlier that illegal Bangladeshi immigrants should be flushed from the region by joining and uniting together by all the north eastern states. “This is the right time to flush out the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants,” apex Naga body had said.

Imphal, Oct 4 (MNS/NNN): At least seven police personnel were wounded after heavily armed miltants ambushed a convoy of Chandel district Superintendent of Police (SP), who had escaped unhurt, at H Mongjang village near Khudengthabi close to Moreh Police Station in the border district of Chandel on Thursday.

The attack took place at around 1:50 pm when Chandel Superintendant of Police along with Deputy Commissiner, Chandel were returning towards the district headquarters after attending an Indo-Myanmar Liaison meeting held at Tamu in the neighboring Myanmar bordering Manipur.
Two roadside bombs which the police said to be IEDs exploded within seconds of each other struck the convoy of the Superintendant of Police at a hilly spot in H Mongjang village, injuring seven police personnel but he escaped the attack unhurt.
A gunfire was also broke out after the blasts. The militants hiding in the hill steep launched another attack on the convoy by heavy firing just after the explosions. The police retaliated. Police said no casualties in the encounter.
The two blasts struck the first escort vehicle and then the rear just as the vehicle Priyokumar was riding in went passed the site.
The police and the Assam Rifles personnel who were later enforced after the attack recovered another bomb planted in the area, police said.
Meanwhile, in the evening, Chandel MLA and other top state police officials visited RIMS where the seven police personnel are undertaking treatment. The two personnel seriously injured in the attack have been referred to Shija hospital, Langol as their condition deteriorated.
The seven constable injured personnel were identified as Chinkholen Aimol, Athang Aimol, Chongte Chothe, Badan Meitei, Medul Maring, Morung Maring and Alensang Maring .
Out of the seven injure personnel Chinkholen Aimol and Medul Maring are said to be in critical condition.
HQ IGAR S said in a statement that at around 1405h Convoy of SP Chandel was ambushed at a place 4 km from Khudenthabi toward Moreh when the convoy of police was on move to Imphal. On hearing the news the Assam Rifles activated its resources and rushed to the ambush site with reinforcement, Ambulance and Doctor to provide first aid to the injured persons. The troops on reaching the ambush site sanitised it and provided first aid. During this incident DGAR and IGAR (South) were also present at Moreh, on hearing the sad news both the Generals officers living to the true sprit of Assam Rifles and friends of Manipur visited the ambush site and took stock of the situation. Subsequently the injured were evacuated to Imphal alongwith the convoy of DG Assam Rifles.
