From 11 am till 11.50 pm and this is a clear reflection of a strong Opposition at work. Perhaps this was the first time that the Assembly session stretched on for 12 hours on August 1, throw in the one hour of lunch break, and this underlines the point that the Opposition is not ready to give the long rope to the ruling BJP and its partners in Government. This is what Manipur needs.

According to an article published in the newspaper daily “Naharol Gi Thoudang” paginated 03 and dated 27th July 2017, Education Minister Th Radheshyam Singh practically obliterated the importance of libraries in the schools and colleges of Manipur when he opined that libraries could be replaced by google as it provides all the required information. He said this in the light of his visits to various schools and colleges where he found battered, cobwebbed ridden rooms with little to no books on the shelves as libraries.

It was a good sign. Contrary to the national trend of law making where the members were seen watching indecent videos, somebody dozing off, yawning, gossiping and all inside the house, the Manipur assembly had a lively and highly interactive session where the opposition and ruling both contributed. The leader of the house and other members were all taking the business very seriously. In the houses of many other states and in the centre, the opposition had a simple agenda of stalling the proceeding, nothing more, no constructive approach.
