IMPHAL, May 12: An interaction program on a collection of poems tilted “Reflections” written by Arambam Meme was held today at Hotel Classic.

Delivering the welcome address, Irungbam Basanta, Executive Member, Writers’ Forum lamented that there is the lack of reading habit among people in Manipur to a great extent.

Giving the Key-note address during the program, Rakesh Naorem, Secretary of Patriotic Writers’ Forum said that the Forum was established on February 10, 2008. He continued that new projects have been taken up that include undertaking translations of literary works from Manipuri into English and from English into Manipuri including Meitei Mayek etc.

Speaking on the occasion, Arambam Meme the author of `Reflections` recollected how she began writing poems during her childhood.

Dr. Ch Sheela Ramani, Associate Professor, DMC of Arts elaborated on the book titled “Reflections”, while reviewing the book. She said that the book written by Arambam Meme has the salient characteristic of women writers in terms of its lyrics and elegy. She continued that 10 poems concerned the writer`s private space while some other poems depict the public life with various figures of speech being employed.

W. Rajen Singh, Director of the IPR and Settlement and Land Records, Manipur in his speech  said that Arambam Meme is a great painter who can depict vivid pictures through a few words while stating that reading her poems is like watching a series of pictures or photos.
