KANGPOKPI, June 17: The first day of United Naga Council’s 48 hrs total bandh in all Naga inhabited areas in Manipur was overwhelmingly effective in Senapati district causing all business establishments to close down and affecting normal life of the people in many ways.
The 48 hrs bandh against the “Common on Slot”, according to the UNC by the Manipur Govt. against the tribal people of the state is also a part of the demand for ‘Alternative Arrangement’ for Nagas in Manipur.
According to police sources, Senapati wore a deserted look today and vehicular movement in the district was totally shut down.
Bandh volunteers were also seen around to enforce the bandh strictly in the district headquarter, further added the source.
Interstate passenger buses, trucks, oil tankers and other essential commodities carrier vehicles were stranded in between Manipur and Nagaland border near Mao gate.
Apart from Senapati district headquarter, the UNC 48 hrs total bandh in all Naga dominated areas in the state has also been effective in Mao, Maram and Tadubi as well.
All government establishments though not totally closed were also intensely hit by the bandh since most of the employees could not attend their duty due to non-availability of transport system in the district where the UNC bandh loomed over.
