IMPHAL, July 10: Bishnupur veteran Kabaddi team defeated Thoubal veteran Kabaddi team in final of the 1st Veteran Kabaddi tournament which concluded today at LYUC ground, Lourembam. 

In the final played today, Bishnupur team scored 42 points against 14 by Thoubal team.

The closing function of the tournament held after the final match was attended by social welfare minister N Loken as chief guest while Bishnupur SP Th Radheshyam was functional president.

N Loken gave away the winner’s trophy and cash prize of Rs 20,000 to Bishnupur team while the runners-up trophy and cash prize of Rs 10,000 was distributed by Th Radheshyam to the Thoubal team.

IMPHAL, July 10: Continuing with its efforts to connect with local populace and to boost spirit of sportsmanship, the 28 Assam Rifles posted at Andro organised a friendly volleyball match today. 

The match was played between Seven Star Club of Ngariyan and Ngariyan village team.

After levelling at 2-2 set, the match was eventually won by the village team in the decider.

A large number of local populace came out to witness the exciting volleyball match, said a release.

IMPHAL, July 9: Henglep Govt. High School, Churachandpur will clash with Martin Grammar School, Thoubal in the final of the U-14 state level Subroto Mukherjee football tournament which is being underway at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.

In the semi final matches played today, Henglep school defeated St. Peter English School, Chandel by 3-1 goals while Martin Grammar school overcame Nilamani English School, Mayang Imphal in the tie-break.

Henglep school took an early lead in the first semis as Phungtanlian netted in first goal of the match in the 3rd minute. However, the Chandel school managed to equalise in the 12th minute with Mowaragam scoring the equalising goal.

In the 29th minute, Phungtanlian scored again thereby putting the Henglep school ahead for the second time in the match. Henglep school managed to increase goal margin as Kamimsei scoring third goal of the match in the 39th minute.

In the second semis, Martin Grammar school, Thoubal and Nilamani English school were goaless during normal time and extra time. The match had to be decided via tie-breaker in which the Thoubal school emerged victorious.

In the tie-break, Martin Grammar school scored four goals while the Mayang Imphal school could convert only three from five spot kicks.

IMPHAL, July 9: Ace archer L Bombayla Devi of Manipur has qualified for the ensuing summer Olympic Games to be held in London, 2012.

She will be a member of the Indian Recurve Team in Archery in the London Olympic games.

A release of the Manipur Olympic Association said Bombayla qualified for the Olympic based on the performance made by her in the ongoing World Archery championship held in Turin, Italy.

Bombayla hail from Khurai Top Khongnangmakhong and she is the daughter of L Manglem.

The Manipur Olympic Association has expressed its happiness over Bombayla’s qualification for the London Olympic Games.

The press conference was held in connection with the formal introduction of a Manipuri monthly journal “Nupigi Punsi” which s already in circulation since June this year.

Speaking at the conference, she maintained that the contents of the journal are strictly based on actual facts faced by the women in our society and will serve as a medium to disseminate valuable information for the welfare of the women.

The monthly journal will mainly emphasis on younger women and has the intention to support the cause of women in our society.

IMPHAL, July 9: Manipur will field a strong team of Swimmers and Water Polo of both boys and girls in the ensuing 38th junior national Aquatic championship, 2011 to be held at Bhopal, MP from August 5 to 9.

A release of the Manipur Swimming Association said altogether nine boys from the state will participate in various swimming events in the championship as also nine girls in different events.

Manipur will also take part in both the boys and girls Water Polo competition in the championship, the release added.

IMPHAL, July: In what could be termed as a significant step towards promotion to games and sports in the state, Manipur government has enhanced the existing Diet Allowance of Rs 100 to Rs 200 per head per day.

The state youth affairs & sports department has effected an order in this regard on July 7. As per the order Diet Allowance at the rate of Rs 200 per head per day will be given to players and officials during the period of jurney and during the period of championship if the organising committee does not provide boarding and lodging.

The Manipur Olympic Association, in a statement, has hail government’s step to increase to Diet Allowance saying it was a wise step for the government towards promotion of games and sports in the state.

The MOA also inform all the concern officials of the state level associations to collect the notification copy from its office.

M Tarunkumar will be team manager while Ksh Naba will be Water Polo coach for the Manipur team.

The MSA inform all the concern team officials and players to report on July 11 at 3pm for non-residential coaching camp to be held at Khuman Lampak Swimming Pool.

IMPHAL, July 9: A three member team of the National Investigative Agency (NIA) led by Ashim Srivastaba additional SP NIA has arrive in the state capital this morning from Delhi to investigate various insurgency related crimes and the cases involving various underground militant cadres of the state who have been arrested from Delhi.

According to an official source, the official team of NIA will be staying inside the 1st MR complex until their investigations and collection of records of various underground related activities from different sources are completed, the source added.

Terming it as a bogus and fictitious organization, the release stated that it may be the handy work of few miscreant with the intention to create communal tension in the state for vested interest.

IMPHAL, July 8: As a part of anti malaria month, the 69 battalion CRPF organized a seminar/awareness programme today at its head quarter Mantripukhri, Imphal.

An official statement of the CRPF stated that resource personnel from the state Malaria department, government of Manipur, Dr. A. Ibochouba state Malaria officer and other resource personnel enlighten the gathering regarding causes of Malaria and vector bore diseases and its precautionary measures.

A demonstration has also been displayed to make the civilian troops besides distributing pamphlets and screening of film.

The seminar was graced by U.B Mishra, commandant 69 battalion, CRPF as the chief guest, said the statement.

IMPHAL, July 8: Two poultry farms have been constructed by 37 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR(S) in village Hollengjang and Tuijang of Samtal Salient. Hollengjang and Tuijang are remote villages near Indo-Myanmar border and have very poor social and economic index. 

A statement issued by the PRO IGAR (S) said that due to almost nonexistent basic infrastructure and other means of employment, villagers of this area had resorted to poppy cultivation. In an endeavor to wean away villagers from poppy cultivation numerous socio- economic measures have been taken up by 37 Assam Rifles and construction of these poultry farms is one of them, it said, adding complete infrastructure has been provided by the Battalion including shelter, chicks, poultry feed, vaccination and transportation from Imphal to these remote villages.

The villagers have also been trained for professional poultry farming by Assam Rifles. Fifty chicks have been given to each poultry farm as a pioneer project, said the statement.

IMPHAL, July 8: Semi final line has been made for the U-14 state level Subroto Mukherjee football tournament which being underway at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium. 

In the first semi final, Henglep Govt. High School, Churachandpur will clash with St.Pete English School, Chandel while in the other semi final, Nilamani English School, Mayang Imphal will meet Martin Grammar English School of Kakching, Thoubal.

Both the matches are scheduled to play tomorrow at the same venue.

In the last league round matches played today, Maram Govt. High School, Senapati drew with Ukhrul Higher Secondary School with the score of 1-1.

Bisany scored the goal for the Maram school while Cavat scored for the Ukhrul school.

In another match of the day, Nilamani English School defeated Utlou High School by a solitary goal. The all important goal for the Imphal West school was scored by S Romeo in the 30th minute.

In the opening match, Bishnupur district team defeated the Thoubal team by a narrow margin of 25-24 points.

The opening match of the tournament was among others graced by international footballer, Ph Rennedy Singh.

IMPHAL, July 8: The Naga People’s Organization (NPO) has strongly condemned the attempt to assault the general secretary of COPTAM by some unidentified persons on June, 28 at North AOC, Imphal. 

In a statement the president, NPO, M. L Markson, stated that the act of causing harm to tribal leaders by any communal forces is uncalled for and unjustifiable. It is an attempt by some anti-tribal elements to sabotage the genuine efforts and demand of the tribal rights in Manipur, it charged.

The NPO demanded the state government to book those responsible at the earliest without which safety of the tribal leaders will not be compromised.

In the meantime endorsing the movement of the COPTAM, the NPO expressed that such acts could be an attempt to derail the tribal movement against the state government’s policy to deny rights of the tribal in Manipur, added the statement.

IMPHAL, July 7: The Meitei National Front has deeply condoled on the demise of Queen of Maram Centre village R Kasuila Roseline, who expired on July 4. 

Roseline was 78 and she is survived by 10 children and 55 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Roseline was wife of K Taruba, Khullapka of Maram Centre village.

She founded Maram Centre village in 1968 and was a pioneer of Roman Catholic religion at Maram.
