Imphal April 6: The KCP (Maoist) have imposed the RDO nursing home to close down immediately unless unwanted reprisals that will be initiated to the concerned by the outfit.
 A press release by W Malemnganba , secretary of publicity and propaganda of the KCP (Maoist) states that that an attack was planned by the cadres of the outfit last night and explosives were planted all around the campus area. Afterwards it came to light that the RDO was not a financial institution but a nursing home with many residential girls still sleeping inside, thus the operation was called off immediately. The cadres managed to defuse a remote controlled bomb and some grenades planted inside, but as daylight was breaking was not able to retrieve two hand grenades. There is still another unexploded grenade inside the campus beside the one recovered from the RDO main gate by the police today, it said.
The outfit states that the attack was planned to teach local MLA Brajabidhu a fitting lesson as the latter has harassed innocent local persons and Meira Paibees by using the police for having alleged links with the outfit.
It further states that befitting punishment will be awarded to the MLA in future.

IMPHAL, April 30: In a freak accident two freight trucks carrying wheat were burnt after a high voltage transmission wire suspending above them snapped and fell on them after another truck knocked down an electric post while trying to go backwards near the FCI godown, Sangaiprou.

Fortunately all the crew of the trucks escaped unharmed.

Reports said that the incident occurred around 11 in the morning while the two trucks were waiting for their turn to unload its goods, when truck carrying rice accidentally knocked down an electric poll supporting the wire.

The sparks from the wire ignited a fire however timely intervention of the fire department put off the fire in time and only the left portions of the trucks were damaged by the fire.

The registration numbers of the two ill fated trucks are identified as NL07A-1579 and NL 05D-6959.

The truck that knocked down the electric poll is identified as NL01V-1646.

IMPHAL, April 11: The Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF) seized textbooks from St. Savio English School Khurai, affiliated to the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) that is not prescribed by the BOSEM.
Briefing media persons in this regards during a press conference held today at the MSF office, the president of the student’s body Laishram Ibomcha disclosed that the MSF conducted a surprise inspection in schools in the wake of the warning issued by All Private School Welfare Association to ensure availability of textsbooks of BOSEM by April 18 failing which they would be compelled to use books not prescribed by BOSEM.
The textbooks seized from St. Savio published by Mcmillan Publishing Company, said Ibomcha.The MSF asked the principal of the school who also happens to be the founder of All Manipur Private Welfare Association to surrender before the MSF.

Members of Akhil Bhartiya Poorva Sainik Seva Parishad were felicitated and a lunch was organized in their honour by Red Shield Division. Brig Laove Verma, SM, Commander of Loktak Brigade and Brig Surendra Mehta, Commander of 27 Sector Assam Rifles graced the occasion. The one day discourse was jointly organized by Manipur Committee for Social Concerns and Kuki Research forum. The function was attended by many dignitaries, well known personalities, intellectuals and scholars.

Speaking on the occasion as the Chief Guest of the function veteran congressman Rishang Keishing said `MLAs and bureaucrats think only of the ways to benefit from corruptions`¦ they don`™t think for the welfare of the public`. He added that nowadays corruption has become more and more of a problem.

IMPHAL April 29: 23 Assam Rifles along with police representative launched an operation in the general area of Yumnam Khunau on April 29 and seized country made liquor of 800 litres from a Maruti Van regd no. MN- 03P- 0049, said a pres releaseof the PRO HQ IG AR (South).

The relase further identified the liquor traffickers as Sharangthem Inaobi Singh and Sharangthem Ingocha Singh.

Meanwhile, in its continued efforts to reach out to local populace and encourage young students to excel in sport, the 42 Assam Rifles of 26 sector under HQ IGAR(S) distributed sports items along with cash and refreshment to the Maring Naga Baptish Association Pvt School, Machi, for its annual Sport Meet `“ Spring 2011, the release said.

It further added that the inaugural ceremony was attended by Machi post Cdr, 42 Assam Rifles along with hundreds of jubilant crowd comprising of local youths and parents. The function also showcased various cultural programmes and talent shows displayed by the school students.

IMPHAL, May 2: The corpse of Salam Sanjoy, 18, s/o Kamini Singh of Moirang Hanuba Leirak who allegedly died in the custody of the 12 MLI on April 29 was claimed for funeral rites by his family members today.

It may be mentioned that, Sanjoy a former cadre of the proscribed KYKL who later defected to KYKL (MDF) died at the MLI outpost located at Patsoi part 4 and the army had claimed that he died of a drug overdose, the JAC instituted in the regard has resolved that until the CBI has inquired into the incident and to punish the culprits involved in the alleged custodial death, the corpse of Salam Sanjoy will not be taken back. Reports are still not had on what grounds the understanding between the JAC and the government has been reached.

IMPHAL, May 25: At 1.45 pm today a Chinese made hand grenade was found near a pond at Konjengbam Leikai Pukhri Achouba Mapal by a group of young boys who had come out to take bath in the pond. The grenade was later collected by a team of Imphal-West commando and Singjamei P/S.
Khangembam Noren (13) and Khangembam Roshan (12) noticed the grenade when they came along with some friends to take their bath.
However, no further details could be received, on why and who kept the bomb.
